From time immemorial it is being believed that a girl should bleed during the first intercourse. Till that time a girl is believed to be virgin. That means a virgin girl bleeds in her first vaginal intercourse when there has been a penetration. But that does not have scientific truth indeed. Now a day some girls do not bleed at first vaginal intercourse with full penetration.
1. Bleeding occurs due to tearing of hymen. It is a thin membrane that covers the vagina. The male penis while forcefully penetrates the vagina tears the hymen. As a result it bleeds.
2. In case some girls hymen is not present at the time of birth. In such case there would be no bleeding.
3. In some women, the hymen only has some tiny openings through which menstrual blood can escape. In such cases bleeding may be or may not be.
4. In some cases hymen gets broken without knowledge of the girls while doing certain activities such as some sports or athletics. In such cases there may not be bleding at first sexual intercourse.
5. It may also get broken if one masturbates or uses tampons. If it is unbroken, a little bleeding may take place at the first intercourse, however it cannot be regarded as a test of one's virginity.
Bleeding may not happen in a virgin girl if the hymen is absent since birth or it is ruptured without her knowledge during sports etc.
