Many people do have such fears.When you were a child, parents would have created a sort of fear in you to make you obey their instructions.They would have spoken of ghosts coming to you if you don't obey.Many parents do this just to make their children obey.But this fear affects some children their whole life. Some of your friends would have put such ideas about ghosts,evil spirits etc upon you during conversation.Such ideas accumulate in your mind and affects your whole life. So this is just due to mind conditioning by parents and society.You must try to understand this first.
you can read some books of osho,listen to swami sugabodananda's audio speech on fear or read any other spiritual books to change your mindset.You can use some attractive dim lighting, play some soft music in your room when you are going to sleep, switch on sports channel in your TV with less volume and use sleep timer to switch off the TV automaticaly while going to sleep, put some god's picture in your room, read spiritual books before sleep etc..These things may help you to overcome fear of loneliness,darkness etc..If you are still afraid, try not to sleep alone or you can even visit a good psychiatist for counselling.
