HYDERABAD: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has seized ‘ayurvedic’ drugs worth over Rs 45 lakh from across the state suspected to contain sildenafil citrate, the allopathic formulation used to treat erectile dysfunction.
In raids conducted over the past few days in Hyderabad and elsewhere, ‘ayurvedic’ capsules Ozomen and Ozomen Forte worth Rs 1.93 lakh were seized after it was found that they were laced with sildenafil citrate, which is sold under the brand name Viagra.
Further, ayurvedic capsules for sexual disorders worth Rs 1.37 lakh, including KK Forte capsules, Shilajit capsules, and Shila Shakti Forte capsules have been seized by the DCA from five medical shops in the city.
In Vijayawada, ayurvedic capsules worth Rs 20.3 lakh were seized from Sterling Health Care and capsules worth Rs 20 lakh were seized from Fizikem Labs Private Limited.
Ayurvedic capsules worth Rs 4 lakh were seized at Narasaraopet and at Eluru and Visakhapatnam ayurvedic capsules worth Rs 1.5 lakh were seized. Samples have been sent to drug analysis, according to a DCA press release.
Further, on Thursday DCA officials seized punches, dies and drugs, including Viagra tablets worth Rs 50 lakh, from Magven Pharma at Cherlapally, a unit that did not possess a valid manufacturing licence.
