Nurture your moments of forgiveness. Sometimes I catch myself experiencing forgiveness and then cutting it short as I mentally go back and list all the things that made me angry or hurt or upset. If this happens to you, stop yourself. Change what you are thinking. Go back to the experience of forgiveness, welcome it, and be grateful for it. What you nurture in your being is what you will experience the most.
Be patient. Forgiveness can take time. It can require you to practice the same steps over and over. You may feel it for a moment and then lose it for a week. That's just the way it goes. I console myself with the thought that if it is this hard, it must be a big step for me, and when I finally let go, I will have made real progress in my spiritual journey. As long as I am making some honest effort, I know that eventually, when I am ready, the Divine will grace me with that sweet state of forgiveness.
