I feel that it is a sign of self development, but the problem is that it is what the individual thinks of his achievement and need not be universally accepted, many of the acts involved with human beings are co relation or comparision beteen two things for example the intellect compares everything with our understanding of things this is stored in the memory and recalled during every new signal brought to the mind by the senses. Thus This also makes it human tendency.

It is basic human traits from his animal genes. Monkeys have red ass to attract partners. humans have virtues,money and other nice things to attract partners.

show off is not a sign of self development but it shows that the person has some weakness and tries to hide the weakness through show off. it is also not concidered to be a basic human tendency because every human being is not engaged in showing off. it is handfull of peope who try to show off and win hearts.

It is “attention seeking” syndrome that is regularly observed in rich and famous persons. Yes, it is also human tendency to show off our credentials to the world but generally persons with hi-profile, valor, status or power have larger tendencies. It cannot be termed as a trait of self development but an act to be popular again and again to the world. Do expect film stars like Saif Ali Khan falling in love every second year as he don’t have credentials of hitting big with his talents or looks. So persons like will involve in such attention seeking acts and this can certainly be called as an act of self development but an act of emotional immaturity. After all, TASHAN ke liye TALENT chahiye, bhai!!!

it is niether. it is a sign of insecurity and inadequacy. when someone has little of something or is insecure about it, he starts beating his drum about it saying that look i have so much to ensure that everyone knows what he has.

Show offs need to go a lot to self development. Most people have this tendency to a certain extend. When they themselves realize their foolishness, they r climbing the first step towards self development. Hypocracy & insincerity are not seen in a self developed person.

Self development doesn't need any show off.A rose doesn't need any show off.Its fragrance is enough to drawthe bee towards it.Like wise,A self developed person in real sense doesn't hang a tag on his coat lapel, "Hi every body, here I'm,the most celebrated self developed person on earth."It's the people with hollow personality indulge in Show off.becasuse it's the innate human tendency. but a self developed person is not just a human being but he is above human beings.

Yeah, to some extent you are right that showmanship is a natural human tendency. And if by luck one get access to lots of money the tendency soars up. But it can not be termed as self developement for there are so many among us who are just fool or stupid in their dealing but as they are to go to a party they put on such apparels that you would mistake them to be really cultured ones. thus the conclusion is that showmanship is just human tendency.
