If you hurt or injure some one at the same time your subconscious that punishes you in several ways of disturbed mind with that mind you are more hurt and injured by yourself.

The saying has its philospohical significance and the words are symbolic with changing human emotions. It signifies the fact that when we hurt somebody then we are indirectly hurting our soul. It is inhumane act that is not feasible by any commandments, rule and law and its important that we should stick to humanity.

Emerson used the words robbing and injuring others symbolically. he intends to say that the minute an evil thought of harming others enters in to the mind, it starts causing harming the perpetrator.it implies that the very thought of causing harm is sinful and the perpetrator is the one who suffers first and he is the first casualty.
