not win against Lagaan - I think No Mans Land won it. But yes, A beautiful mind is a brilliant movie....A Beautiful Mind was not the movie that won in the Foreign language category. lagaan...thrice are bestthses are one of the best films our industry...LAGAN it was anice film reached up to top three competetor in oscor...sholay and ddlj were super hits of their time periods. both were from different generes. the stories cannot be compared wiht each other. i feel lagaan wasa shade better than these films just for the fact that it got noticed and nominated for the oscar wards

Lagaan could not win the OSCAR because may be the judges were not convinced enough with the movie.It can be becauseof the fact that the other movies were found better by the judges....Perhaps it didnt Oscar entries....Lagaan was among the five nominations for best foreign language film.There was a lot of disappointment in India after a much hyped Bollywood movie failed to lift an Oscar at the Academy
