check whether you are change the file extension filename.xls. there is a file missing or corrupted in your excel, and you need to reinstall your ms excel again to overcome from this problem.

There are several software out there that can produce "fancy" graphs. 3D, bar graphs, line graphs, etc... Excel does a pretty good job at it. Id say any spreadsheet software does an excellent job.
