No, there are no indirect taxes that are imposed on the production of books specially educational and reference publicatiosn but sales tax is imposed on journals, newspapers, notebooks and diaries meant for commercial purposes.In case, you import the books, the applicable duties are levied on the same. This is done to discourage the import of books and protect the indian publishers.

go to naee sarak near chandni chowk and take that book whatever you want...u will get good technical books at nai sadak near chandni chowk ..........or at jia sarai near IIT...You can find good store with technical books atBook Supply Bureau D-44, Part-1,Nr Dena Bank, Ndse, Delhi - 110049...Cannaught place...Most of the good books shops reside at nai sarak and darya ganj majorly.
