That is a ritual that is followed in most parts of the country but not necessarily in all parts. There are other rules. and other rituals too. They see their spouse in the Moon . It is considerate to look at the hubby unashamedly and that is why a screen or a curtain is requiered to look at him. The sieve gives a better look with the traditions withut breaking.

These are local rituals which differ from each other. There are places where a 'Matthi' with a whole is used to look at the moon...and so forth.
