What are the scientific reasons behind many a Hindu Rituals ?  

Science itself is un scientific. Basic hypothesis of geometry are taken without proof.In the same way anything can be taken without proof if common sense of a person so wishes.Provided the person accepts the consequencies of hypotheses wihout proof.Science is just a handy tool to kill eastern beleif systems.And a great tool in the hand of powerful and commercial people.

Dear vijay !

Peoples due to vested prieshood are confused in giving mataphysical significance to lessor rituals
instead of its ESOTERIC SICIENCE behind rituals. Let me explain with an exaple of YAJNA/JAPA.

[1] The purpose of the SPIRITUAL TECH.OF " YAJNA ", WORSHIP OG GOD through the symbolic sacrifice , is destruction of SINS BY WISDOM AND UNION OF SOUL AND SPIRIT.

[2] The YOGI in the performance of YAJNA invokes the manifesting power of the sacred word.
YAJNA is performed in the sacrificial fire ceromany ;

[3] In JAPA repeted chanting of AUM ; in whisper chanting of AUM with the interorized concentration
on the "burning material desires "in '' THE FIRE OF SPIRITUAL PERCEPTION"; and in acstatic
mental prayer, actual communion with AUM , or GOD--Symbolized in the GITA as the
" SACRED DIALOGUE " between KRISHNA & ARJUNA.

[4] In this TRUE FORM OF YAJNA , The human consciousness is purely transmuted in the

" WISDOME FLAMES OF COSMIC CONSCIOUSNESS" Hence It is called Jnana AJNA
or,
DIVINE SACRIFICE THROUGH WISDOM .

THIS IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF " YAJNA" AND IT TRUE SCIENTEFIC RITUALS OF YAJNA,
BY WHICH MANY SAINTS AND SAGES GET SOLVATION ,SELREALIZATION & UNIFICATION
WITH DIVINE SUPREME.

[5] Refer page 116 of Yatharth GITA by Sami ARGADANANDA ji ,who says :[Hindi]

" YAGYA BEDI BANAKER , TIL- JAU LEKER SWAHA BOLTE HUYE HAWAN PRARAMBHA KER DETE HAI . YAHA EKA ..............."DHOKHA " ..........HAI. BASTUTAH YAGYA "SHVAS-PRASHVAS KA HAI , ENDRIYON KE SANYAM KA HAI , MANA KE NIRODHA KA HAI "

The rituals might have started in the past to teach the illiterate people especially women the teachings of the vedas & puranas, by following a way of life which they could understand & follow. With the fear of God, they would keep away from the sins. By following certain rituals they could bring an order, & as a result a culture to their lives. Scientifically they could improve their life style, from that of the people who lived in the forests.
