What is the pure tredition of doing sheetla maata puja?  

Sheetla is the Mother Goddess who in fact is Durga. This is yet another form of the Mother. Dates vary from place to place by a day or two for the Sheetalastami.
The traditions are also varied. In my own family Sheetala is considered the Goddess of small pox, measles and like that. A way to perform the rituals is that on the Holy Day nothing warm is eaten or drunk until the pooja is performed. The meal and sweets are prepared the early day and are used thruout the pooja day. In the morning an icon, a picture or a symbol is judged as the Mother Hersel and by offering the Kumkum , the prepared meals are first offered to her. If there is a statue lots of water is splashed upon it. With a very simple process the function is performed.
