Place it as you'll place any other Shivlinga, with the 'bhag' facing the North. Please do not get it 'sthapit' (installed) in your house as it will never be possible to move it from there then.

The best way is to select a day date and time to establish it for keeps. There are ways and methods that are to be followed. It will have to go thru the various rituals of a Pran Pratistha. A P/P mean the ShivLingam will become lively. There are further ruules and duties to perform. If you follow the proper procedures you will be immensely benefitted.
