To know the safe period you should know the duration of the menstrual cycle i.e. first day of the last menstrual bleeding to the first day of the present menstrual bleeding, this is the duration of the menstrual cycle.
Normally this cycle varies between 26 to 31 days; it is easier to calculate the fertile period than the safe period.
To calculate the fertile period the easy formula is shortest cycle minus 18 days, this gives you the first day of fertile period. The longest cycle minus 10 days will give us the last day of fertile period.
If we take the example of a women cycle to be between 26 and 31 days then the fertile period is
The shortest cycle (26) minus 18 days = 8th day.
The longest cycle (31) minus 10 days = 21st day
This means the period between 8th day and 21st day is the fertile period.
The rest of the days is called the safe period that is the period when you will not get pregnant. Please be very careful in calculating because there is many a slip between the cup and the lip. Good luck
