Why is a man allowed to have more than one wife in Islam? i.e. why is polygamy allowed in Islam? How god-allah allows this folly gender arthmatic?

it is because to give protection a lady from prostitution, antisocial enemies, poverty it is a male s duty to give protection by way of marriage.because of this only they in those days allowed to marry more than one lady.
