what are the exercises that help in increasing waist

Asked by Sonal Saxena in Fitness at   9:25 PM on November 02, 2008

Meera Jadhav's Answer

Hi Sonal, why do you want to increase only your waist? Why not gain weight over all? I think you must put on weight overall on your body so that it looks proportionate. In order to gain healthy weight of muscles you need to increase proteins in the diet. To accelerate the muscle gain you also need to do intense weight training. I am giving you some tips to gain weight which you can follow:
1. Include milk, milk products, nuts, soy, sprouts, dals and pulses in your diet.
2. If you are non-vegetarian then include egg, chicken and fish as they are richest source of protein.
3. For quick results you can include protein powder in your diet. Whey proteins give best results and they do not have any side effects. You can try optimum or whey or serious mass.
4. Eat small and frequent meals.
5. Also follow rigorous weight training exercises (lifting weights)
6. Focus more on weight training exercises of all the muscles.
7. Proper rest is also important for weight gain, so sleep for about 8 hours at night.
Follow the diet and exercise routine religiously.

Meera Jadhav's Answer

Hi Anil, if you are new to low back pain perhaps the most important thing to do after a days rest is to start doing gentle stretching and exercise. You can strengthen the abdominal region and lower back to get rid of back pain. To know the exercises visit: http://emzr.com/category/fitness/yo ga/healthy-back/
Also improve your posture when you're sitting, standing and sleeping. Sit in chairs with straight backs or low-back support. Keep your knees a little higher than your hips. Adjust the seat or use a low stool to prop your feet on. Turn by moving your whole body rather than by twisting at your waist. When driving, sit straight and move the seat forward. This helps you not lean forward to reach the controls. You may want to put a small pillow or rolled towel behind your lower back if you must drive or sit for a long time.
If you must stand for long periods, rest 1 foot on a low stool to relieve pressure on your lower back. Every 5 to 15 minutes, switch the foot you're resting on the stool. Maintain good posture: Keep your ears, shoulders and hips in a straight line, with your head up and your stomach pulled in. The best way to sleep is on your side with your knees bent. You may put a pillow under your head to support your neck. You may also put a pillow between your knees.
If you sleep on your back, put pillows under your knees and a small pillow under your lower back. Don't sleep on your stomach unless you put a pillow under your hips. Use a firm mattress. If your mattress is too soft, use a board of 1/2-inch plywood under the mattress to add support.

Asked by Hameed Baig in Fitness at   9:53 PM on September 10, 2008

Meera Jadhav's Answer

Hi Hameed, I am not aware of any Ayurvedic medicines that help for stamina gaining but I think the simple and most economic way to increase stamina is through cardio exercises. Any kind of cardio or aerobic exercises such as walking, cycling, swimming, jogging, running or dancing not increase your stamina but it also improves your heart and lung capacity and tones the muscles.
