What's your perfect weight?

Asked by KABIR RIBAK in Do It Yourself at   2:07 PM on September 24, 2008

Keshto Patel's Answer

Kabir you’re at your ideal body weight when:

Your weight isn’t causing (or putting you at risk for) any health problems
Your weight doesn't limit you from living the life you want
You can accept your body as it is, without feeling uncomfortably self-conscious
You can enjoy being in your own skin, without worrying too much about how you compare to others (or cultural ideals)

There are charts and formulas that can help you determine what the number on the scale tells you about your risk for health problems, and give you a general weight range to shoot for to decrease your risk.

Please share your opinion on companies giving "pink slips" to employees in the name of performance.

Asked by shail 4u in News & Current Affairs at   12:38 PM on September 17, 2008

Keshto Patel's Answer

Pink slip refers to the American practice, by a personnel department, of including a discharge notice (printed on pink paper) in an employee's pay envelope to notify the worker of his or her termination of employment or layoff. The term dates from 1915; originally the color of the paper had no particular significance. In the UK and Ireland the equivalent of a pink slip is a P45, in Belgium the equivalent is known as a C4.

Shail pink slip hand out means matter of accountablity and better performance through descipline. So I guess this kind of hire n fire policy is well suited to Indians who are prone to strikes n more strikes.

How can I set which programs start automatically when I boot up my computer?

Asked by KABIR RIBAK in Computers & Technology at   3:47 PM on September 28, 2008

Keshto Patel's Answer

Kabir go into the Registry (REGEDIT) and find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Softwar e
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersi on
Run

Within this registry entry, you will find all of the programs that execute automatically when your computer starts (Including SPYWARE and VIRUSES!) To start a program, just have the pathname, and create a new key.

Note: If you see anything in there you aren't sure about, you can place a apostrophe at the front of any of the entries, and it will disable the program without giving an error. If there were no entries under this key, Windows would still run perfectly (no Windows dependecies) but there are printer dependencies or anti-virus, or basically anything in your systray (icons in lower right corner)

Asked by Satya in Do It Yourself at   6:34 AM on September 14, 2008

Keshto Patel's Answer

During partition days Pakistani muslims killed hindus n sikhs put them in a train and sent the consignment of cadavers to India. Then there was one more such train full of dead bodies. After which Hindus n Sikhs retaliated in a similar fashion and sent muslim bodies by train. PAKISTANI MUSLIMS STOPPED KILLING. They understand the language of danda - brute force. This time we should finish off thier economy by printing fake pakistani currency and dumping it freelu in around Kashmir and see the fun. This is the only way they would stop doing what they are doing.

What is a Multilayer PCB?

Asked by Suparna in Computers & Technology at   4:51 PM on September 08, 2008

Keshto Patel's Answer

Suparna a rigid, flat board that holds chips and other electronic components. The board is made of layers, typically two to 10, that interconnect components via copper pathways. The main printed circuit board (PCB) in a system is called a "system board" or "motherboard," while smaller ones that plug into the slots in the main board are called "boards" or "cards."

Printed circuits were first used in the 1940s to connect discrete components together. By the 1960s, PCBs were widely used in all electronic systems, but still mostly connecting discrete components. Integrated circuits (chip) were emerging and added to the boards, and by the 1980s, PCBs were holding large quantities of chips. Today, printed circuit boards typically connect mostly chips with only a few discrete components, each chip containing from a few thousand up to hundreds of millions of transistors.

i am getting an error name generic host. exe error & when when this error comes my internet speed comes to zero & connection doesnt disconnect& i will restart.

Asked by sandeep in Computers & Technology at   6:59 PM on September 16, 2008

Keshto Patel's Answer

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services or svchost.exe is a legal and essential component of Windows which is used to host services which run from dynamic-link libraries (DLLs). Multiple instances of Svchost.exe can run at the same time. So it is not a problem in most cases if you see five or six or even more copies of svchost.exe running in your services because they host different groups of DLLs. However, there are several known spyware anв trojans that pretend to be legal svchost.exe. They usually have the same name or one of the following names: svchost.exe, svchosts.exe (which often causes svchosts.exe page faults), Generic.exe, svcchost.exe and several others. Please note that legal svchost.exe should reside in Windows\System32 folder and should not appear in startup list.

The are several possible reasons of this error message.

Reason 1: You have one of numerous worms, viruses and trojans which pretent themselves to be legal svchost.exe or use legal svchost.exe to run themselves at windows startup. These threats include: CashToolbar Downloader-MY, System1060, CoolWebSearch Svchost32, ADCLICK-AG, ADCLICK-AX, ADUYO-A, AGENT-V, AGOBOT-KL, AUTOTROJ-C and many others.

Reason 2: Some legal DLL which uses svchost.exe to run itself at Windows startup crashed and causec crash of the whole svchost.exe service.

Reason 3: You have just installed update from Microsoft which contains errorneous verison of Windows Installer or double-byte character set (DBCS) characters support (only occures in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)).

Reason 4: You installed old printer or scanner drivers from Hewlett-Packard which are incompatible with the current version of svchost.exe

What is a Patch Panel?

Asked by Suparna in Computers & Technology at   4:53 PM on September 08, 2008

Keshto Patel's Answer

A plugboard used to rearrange communications lines and modems by connecting them with double-ended cables, or to attach monitoring devices to analyze circuit signals. The advantage of using a patch panel is that it allows manual monitoring, testing, switching, routing, and other maintenance to be handled quickly because the cables in the front (patch cords or patch cables) that connect to the more permanent cables in the back are configured and made so that changes can be made quickly and easily when needed.

Q: How inflation rate calculates?

Asked by kaustubh in News & Current Affairs at   11:03 AM on September 06, 2008

Keshto Patel's Answer

Kaustubh Mathematically, inflation or inflation rate is calculated as the percentage rate of change of a certain price index. The price indices widely used for this are Consumer Price Index (adopted by countries such as USA, UK, Japan and China) and Wholesale Price Index (adopted by countries such as India). Thus inflation rate, generally, is derived from CPI or WPI.

In this method, a set of 435 commodities and their price changes are used for the calculation. The selected commodities are supposed to represent various strata of the economy and are supposed to give a comprehensive WPI value for the economy.

WPI is calculated on a base year and WPI for the base year is assumed to be 100. To show the calculation, let’s assume the base year to be 1970. The data of wholesale prices of all the 435 commodities in the base year and the time for which WPI is to be calculated is gathered.

Let's calculate WPI for the year 1980 for a particular commodity, say wheat. Assume that the price of a kilogram of wheat in 1970 = Rs 5.75 and in 1980 = Rs 6.10

The WPI of wheat for the year 1980 is,
(Price of Wheat in 1980 – Price of Wheat in 1970)/ Price of Wheat in 1970 x 100

i.e. (6.10 – 5.75)/5.75 x 100 = 6.09

Since WPI for the base year is assumed as 100, WPI for 1980 will become 100 + 6.09 = 106.09.

In this way individual WPI values for the remaining 434 commodities are calculated and then the weighted average of individual WPI figures are found out to arrive at the overall Wholesale Price Index.
