Who was IKSHWAKU from RAM's ancestry ?

Asked by Vijay Kayal in Puja & Rituals at   11:20 AM on October 24, 2008

Ashish Yadav's Answer

Ikshwakus were a dynasty of rulers of ancient India, which branched out from the Solar Dynasty. They ruled from the Kosala Kingdom with Ayodhya as their capital. The two Indian epics, viz. Ramayana and Mahabharata have numerous mentions of this dynasty. The most famous among all the Ikshwaku kings was Raghava Rama, the son of Dasaratha. He is the central hero of the epic Ramayana. In Mahabharata, they were mentioned as one of the most prominent races .

During the Rajasuya ceremony of Pandava king Yudhisthira, Ikshwakus along with Ailas were mentioned as the prominent Kshatriya races of the time. King Suvala is mentioned as an Ikshwaku king and a friend of Sindhu king Jayadratha . At 13:2 the founder of the race, viz. Ikshwaku, the Suryavanshi was mentioned as the son of the ancient patriarch Manu. Many kings like Aja and Trishanku were mentioned as Ikshwaku kings.

The following passage is from Mahabharat 14:4 describing the lineage of Ikshwakus

In the Krita age, Manu was the lord (of the Earth) wielding the scepter. His son was known by the name of Prasandhi. Prasandhi had a son named Kshupa and Kshupa’s son was that lord (of men), King Ikshwaku. He had many sons endowed with preeminent piety and all of them were made monarchs by King Ikshwaku. The eldest of them, Vinsa by name became the model of bowmen. Vinsa’s son was the auspicious Vivinsa. Vivinsa had five daughters and ten sons; all of them were powerful archers, reverential to the Brahmanas and truthful as well as gentle. The eldest brother, Khaninetra, oppressed all his brothers. Even after having conquered the entire kingdom, Khaninetra could not retain his supremacy; nor were the people pleased with him. And dethroning him, they invested his son Suvarcha with the rights of sovereignty. He vanquished all the kings living along the borders of his dominions and from this circumstance he hath been celebrated as Karandhama. His son, (the first) Karandhama who was born at the beginning of the Treta age, equaled Indra himself and was endowed with grace and was invincible even at the hands of the immortals. At that time, all the kings were under his control; and alike by virtue of his wealth and his prowess, he became their emperor. In short, the righteous king Avikshit by name, became like Indra himself in heroism. He performed hundreds of Aswamedha sacrifices, and the potent and learned Angira himself served as his priest. His son surpassed his sire in the possession of good qualities. Named Marutta, that lord of kings was righteous and of great renown, and possessed the might of ten thousand elephants. That virtuous monarch, coming to Mount Meru on the northern side of Himalayas, caused thousands of shining golden vessels to be forged and there on a huge golden hill he performed the rites.

Which is the good laptop to buy for a graphic designer?

Asked by ramakanth in Computers & Technology at   4:04 PM on October 23, 2008

Ashish Yadav's Answer

Any dual core laptop with 2 gigs of ram with suffice with a Mac your just paying for the name brand nothing more (or maybe a bit less). The big thing with graphics design is having a good video card, depending on if your talking about CAD or photoshop you may want to choose between Nvidia FX Quaddro (For CAD and computer graphics design) or a regular Nvidia 8600m (for gaming and photo editing) the second thing is you need a laptop with a nice resolution 1920 x 1200 is ideal but 1680 x 1050 will work too. This makes the image sharper and allows you to see more on screen at once. Depending on if you want portability or just a mobile desktop a 17" screen is better to view images with but is large whereas the normal 15.4" monitor is lighter but harder to find with a high resolution. Any core 2 duo will work for you but something above 2.0 Ghz is reccomended. Well thats all I have to say good luck on your search if I could reccomend a place :

How parshurama bhargava exterminated the powerful kshatriyas what was the modus operandi?

Asked by unmand singh in Puja & Rituals at   5:11 PM on October 17, 2008

Ashish Yadav's Answer

Parashurama Bhargava (Sanskrit: परशुराम भार्गव) or Parasurama (Axe-wielding Rama), the sixth avatar of Vishnu, belongs to the Treta yuga, and is the son of Jamadagni and Renuka. Parashu means axe, hence his name literally means Rama-with-the-axe. He received an axe after undertaking a terrible penance to please Shiva, from whom he learned the methods of warfare and other skills. He is a Chiranjeevin, who fought the advancing ocean back thus saving the lands of Konkan and Malabar (Maharashtra - Karnataka - Kerala coastline).

The coastal area of Kerala state along with the Konkan region, i.e., coastal Maharashtra and Karnataka, is known as Parashurama Kshetra (Parashurama's area). Some say it extends all the way to Mumbai in Maharashtra. Parashurama is said to be a "Brahma-Kshatriya" (of the duty between a Brahmana and a Kshatriya) and a descendant of the Kshatriya Vishvamitra.

What is the gayatri mantra for atharva veda?

Asked by unmand singh in Puja & Rituals at   5:10 PM on October 17, 2008

Ashish Yadav's Answer

The Gayatri Mantra is a highly revered mantra in Hinduism (second only to the mantra Om) and Adi Dharm religion. It consists of the prefix :oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ ॐ भूर्भुवस्वः, a formula taken from the Yajurveda, and the verse 3.62.10 of the Rigveda (which is an example of the Gayatri mantra). Since all the other three Vedas contain much material rearranged from the Rig Veda, the Gayatri mantra is found in all the four Vedas. The deva invoked in this mantra is Savitr, and hence the mantra is also called Sāvitrī. In Atharva Veda, the Gayatri mantra is different from the regular Gayatri mantra.

Gayatri Mantra is devoted to God Savitr. Savitr refers to Sun. Sun here does not imply the sun of our solar system. Rather it implies a Sun of all suns. Sun that is the source of eternal light that provides life, knowledge and enlightenment. Light that can illuminate the soul.

By many Hindus, the Gayatri is seen as a Divine awakening of the mind and soul, and within it a way to reach the most Supreme form of existence, and the way to Union with Brahman. Understanding, and purely loving the essence of the Gayatri Mantra is seen by many to be one, if not the most powerful ways to attain God.

Like all other Mantras of Rigveda, Gayatri Mantra is full of praise for the God or Savitr. The beauty of this mantra is that after praising the God, we have admitted that we do not know any better. We are seeking the knowledge to know Him better.

By Brahmos of the Adi Dharma religion, the Gayatri symbolises the pre-Aryan Unity of all forms of Godhead as Brahma "there is always infinite Singularity".[

Why was Hinduism formed?

Asked by unmand singh in Puja & Rituals at   5:10 PM on October 17, 2008

Ashish Yadav's Answer

Some historians say that Hinduism had its roots over 3,500 years ago in a wave of migration that brought a pale-skinned, Aryan people down from the northwest into the Indus Valley, now located mainly in Pakistan and India. From there they spread into the Ganges River plains and across India. Some experts say that the religious ideas of the migrants were based on ancient Iranian and Babylonian teachings. One thread common to many cultures and also found in Hinduism is a flood legend.
