You can make your laptop dual boot system in which you can also install windows and linux in asingle hard disk. To make a computer or laptop you don't need to upgrade you BIOS, simple you have just follow these steps :
1. First Install Windows 9.x/NT/2000/XP any one with having atleast 1.2 GB space unformatted. You should leave it as Non Dos.
2. After Installing Windows , then You put Linux Software CD 1 (Preferably Red Hat ) and Boot the machine from the CD-Drive.
3. Follow the instructions. At the time of partitions click on the Non Partitioned space and Install root partition on that .
Ensure that the packages you are trying to Install does not exceed the partition size. Otherwise the partition might crash.
4. In the end the Installation will ask you to specify Wether You want Dual Boot to be active or nor . Select Yes.
5. Configure LILO with name of your Choice. then the Installation will ask you to restart the machine.
6. When you restart you will see that you get Two options at the time of booting.
1. Dos
2. Linux
Select the partition of your choice and enjoy dual booting.
