how to boil rice ?

Asked by ATtITUdeD in Groceries at   1:01 PM on April 21, 2008

Upasna's Answer

Boiling rice is very simple, and rice goes well by itself or as part of any meal. Rice has been enjoyed across generations and cultures. Making delicious, fluffy rice at home does not take much time at all. Follow these simple steps to avoid clumpy or sticky rice every time.

Step1
Boil 1 1/2 cups of water in a small pot. Add a 1/4 teaspoon of butter to the water. Butter will prevent the rice from sticking together.

Step2
Rinse 1 cup of rice thoroughly with water in a bowl or a strainer. Shake any excess water out before transferring to the pot.

Step3
Pour the rice in boiling water and reduce to medium heat. Cover the pot with a lid and let it cook for 20 minutes.

Step4
Stir the rice occasionally while cooking to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Put the lid back on until the rice is done cooking.

Step5
Remove the pot from the heat and let it stand for 5 minutes. Remove the lid from the pot. Be cautious of the hot escaping steam. Fluff rice with a fork, serve and enjoy. This makes about two large or four medium.
