What are the benefits of Yoga???

Asked by tiara anchan in Personal Health at   1:00 PM on August 20, 2008

Tushar Rath's Answer

At the outset, we must understand what we can gain out of this wonderful practice

At the physical level, yoga and its cleansing practices have proven to be extremely effective for various disorders. To get a sampling of how yoga benefits health disorders, please visit the Yoga Therapy section.
More importantly, yoga is extremely effective in:

Increasing Flexibility – yoga has positions that act upon the various joints of the body including those joints that are never really on the ‘radar screen’ let alone exercised.

Increasing lubrication of the joints, ligaments and tendons – likewise, the well-researched yoga positions exercise the different tendons and ligaments of the body.

Surprisingly it has been found that the body which may have been quite rigid starts experiencing a remarkable flexibility in even those parts which have not been consciously work upon. Why? It is here that the remarkable research behind yoga positions proves its mettle. Seemingly unrelated “non strenuous” yoga positions act upon certain parts of the body in an interrelated manner. When done together, they work in harmony to create a situation where flexibility is attained relatively easily.

Massaging of ALL Organs of the Body – Yoga is perhaps the only form of activity which massages all the internal glands and organs of the body in a thorough manner, including those – such as the prostate - that hardly get externally stimulated during our entire lifetime. Yoga acts in a wholesome manner on the various body parts. This stimulation and massage of the organs in turn benefits us by keeping away disease and providing a forewarning at the first possible instance of a likely onset of disease or disorder.

what to do when vommiting sensation

Asked by madhu sudhan in Personal Health at   12:37 PM on August 21, 2008

Tushar Rath's Answer

That depends. Migraines can be so bad that they cause vomiting. Excedrin is the greatest thing for those, I don't buy the ones for migraines either, the regular ones work great. If it is migraines you are getting you may need to see a neurosurgeon to find out if it is from foods, lighting, or whatever other source that maybe causing them, sometimes it is from only stress. They will tell you that only aspirin seems to cure them.

HOW TO CURE GASTRIC WHEN PAINING....

Asked by madhu sudhan in Personal Health at   12:47 PM on August 19, 2008

Tushar Rath's Answer

The best answer would be for you to at least drink an instant meal (like Ensure), as skipping meals slows your metabolism, messes up your blood sugar levels, and (obviously) can cause gastric upset. If you cannot, and/or you are still having gastric pains there are two options, both prescription but very good.

The first would be to try switching to a prescription acid inhibitor, like Nexium. Nexium helps to stop "acid stomach", acid reflux, and helps your stomach and esophagus to heal the damage caused by the acid build up.

The second option is a medication that treats actual gastric cramps. If your stomach pain is caused by cramping and not acid, talk to your doctor about Dicyclomine. Dicyclomine is a medication with very few side effects that can be taken up to four times a day to treat gastric cramps. I have been hospitalized because of gastric cramps (that eventually caused severe vomiting, etc.), and the Dicyclomine cured it. I have no side effects from it, and whenever I have stomach or intestinal cramps, I take it, and they are gone within an hour.

If you are looking for something non-prescription, head to the herbalism section. Ginger capsules or peppermint oil capsules are both soothing to the stomach and can help to treat acid problems, cramping, nausea, etc. I find ginger to be more helpful than peppermint oil, but peppermint oil can also help with tension headaches. Make sure to let your doctor know if you are taking any supplements, such as these; however I have never had a problem taking both ginger and the prescription medications previously mentioned.

I hope some of this helps!

As you get older, your chances of falling and breaking a bone increase. Why?

Asked by Tingtong in Personal Health at   10:33 AM on August 21, 2008

Tushar Rath's Answer

Every thing has a longevity so as bone,so when people getting old ,bone's oil dried up and your bones lose mass and may become porous, or less dense. This happens because you lose more old bone than your body can replace.
Bones that have less mass are more likely to break or fracture, even in a minor fall. The first warning that you have osteoporosis may be a broken bone. Broken bones limit activities for many older adults.

WHAT IS OSTEOMYLITES ?

Asked by sunjay dhar in Personal Health at   4:58 PM on August 21, 2008

Tushar Rath's Answer

Osteomyelitis is an inflammation or swelling of bone tissue that is usually the result of an infection. Osteomyelitis, or bone infection, may occur for many different reasons and can affect children or adults. Some of the causes of osteomyelitis include the following:

* Osteomyelitis may occur as a result of a bacterial bloodstream infection, sometimes called bacteremia, or sepsis, that spreads to the bone. This type is most common in infants and children and usually affects their long bones such as the femur (thighbone) or humerus (upper arm bone). When osteomyelitis affects adults, it often involves the vertebral bones along the spinal column. The source of the blood infection is usually Staphylococcus aureus, although it may be caused by a different type of bacteria or fungal organism.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF TSH LEVEL IN BODY

Asked by sameer in Personal Health at   8:01 PM on August 21, 2008

Tushar Rath's Answer

TRH, a hormone produced in the hypothalamus, stimulates the pituitary gland to release TSH. TSH subsequently stimulates the thyroid to produce thyroid hormones, T3 and T4. These hormones feedback to the hypothalamus and pituitary to regulate the release of both TSH and TRH.

In certain diseases, this regulation pathway is altered, leading to under- or over-production of thyroid hormone. When a thyroid disorder is suspected clinically, a TSH level is obtained as an initial test.Normal values are from 0.4 to 4.0 mIU/L for those with no symptoms of an under- or over-active thyroid.

If you are being treated for a thyroid disorder, your TSH should be between 0.5 and 2.0 mIU/L. This means that you are being treated appropriately.

Some people with a TSH value over 2.0 mIU/L, who have no signs or symptoms suggestive of an under-active thyroid, may develop hypothyroidism sometime in the future. Anyone with a TSH above 2.0 mIU/L, therefore, should be followed very closely by a doctor.

Is there a cure for diabetes?

Asked by Tingtong in Personal Health at   8:07 AM on August 22, 2008

Tushar Rath's Answer

Currently there is no cure for diabetes, although there is treatment that can help people maintain normal lives. Some cases of diabetes may not respond as well to insulin treatment, as it does with other cases. Currently there is some treatment, which suggests a method for reducing the symptoms of diabetes and dependence on insulin.

Those who suffer from diabetes cannot produce their own insulin, and thus need to inject insulin in order to maintain healthy blood sugar levels in the body. In Type 1 diabetes, insulin is actually destroyed by the body. Many die prematurely and thus a cure for diabetes is desperately needed.

Insulin is carried in little cells called islets, and studies began to address whether donor islets might provide a cure for diabetes.
But finally Ayurvedic treatment may be best alternatives.

how to keep our teeth in good visibility and strong.

Asked by BALA S in Personal Health at   4:49 AM on August 22, 2008

Tushar Rath's Answer

Because we only have two sets of teeth our entire life, it is important to have strong healthy teeth. Tooth decay is the leading cause of weak teeth. When our teeth decay a dentist has to scrape away part of our tooth's structure which can cause the tooth to weaken. Preventing tooth decay is the best way to keep our teeth strong. You can help prevent tooth decay by practicing good oral hygiene. Following these simple tips can also help to keep your teeth healthy and strong.

Tip one:
Calcium is what helps our bones to develop and remain strong and healthy, but calcium is also needed to fully develop our baby and adult teeth. While we are infants and our baby teeth are developing we will not need as much calcium as we will need when we are about nine and our adult teeth begin to come in and we go through a critical bone building stage.

Tip two:
Fluoride also helps to make our teeth stronger. Drinking water in most cities has fluoride added to the water; if your area does not add fluoride to your drinking water your dentist can give you fluoride supplements. Another way to get fluoride is through toothpaste; not all toothpaste contains fluoride so you will have to read the ingredients to ensure your toothpaste has fluoride. Fluoride is used to make our tooth enamel stronger.

Tip three:
Use proper brushing techniques. Use a soft bristled toothbrush held at a forty-five degree angle and brush for at least two minutes. When brushing your teeth it is important to brush all the surfaces. Do not forget to brush your tongue. By brushing properly you are removing the food particles and plaque that can turn into acid and cause tooth decay. Tooth decay makes our teeth weaker.

Tip four:
Get your teeth professional cleaned at least twice a year. Professional cleaning is the only way to remove tartar, which is plaque that has harden over time. Getting your teeth professionally cleaned also removes tartar below the gum line that your toothbrush can miss. Getting this plaque and tartar build up removed helps to prevent tooth decay, tooth decay can weaken your teeth.

Tip five:
Eat a balanced diet. Calcium and fluoride are not the only nutrients that your teeth need to remain strong; your teeth also need protein and phosphorus. Milk and cheese are a great way to help provide your teeth with the nutrients that your teeth need to remain strong. Also try to limit the amount of starchy, sugary, and sticky foods that you eat. These types of foods tend to stick to your teeth, which can increase tooth decay and cause cavities. When you get your cavities fixed it can weaken your teeth.

Tip six:
If you can not brush after your meals you should still take certain measures to help keep your teeth clean. Clean teeth are healthy and strong teeth. After eating rinse your mouth out with water or mouthwash, this helps to rinse any loose food particles from your teeth. You can also floss after eating to help remove food particles or chew a piece of sugar less gum. The increased salvia you produce from chewing gum helps to rinse food particles from your teeth.
