As per Hindu traditions, when does a woman return to her husband's home after first pregnancy (childbirth)? Is there specific period or occasion?

Asked by Amit Patil in Puja & Rituals at   1:40 PM

Tingtong S's Answer

This ritual may differ with every region. Among the Hindu Nairs in Kerala, the girl returns to husband's place or anywhere else, after 30 days of child birth. Now a days these customs cannot be followed by all. The girls have the delivery in the place where they live, & the parents go there to assist.

How can i improve my Enlish (speaking and writing both)

Asked by ashok sharma in Self Development at   9:11 PM

Tingtong S's Answer

Learning language is much more than just learning the formal structure; it is learning to communicate with the people that speak it.
Speaking, reading, listening to native speakers every day, you will gradually learn how they think, behave and live, until you are truly able to say: “ I know how to speak real English"
Spoken English is taught along with personality development in many institutions. You can learn to speak English with your own effort. Read & improve your vocabulary, & try to speak with confidence. Need not feel shy if u go wrong in the beginning, as it's not ur mother tongue, but a foreign language. Listen to radio or TV programmes in English, & learn the accent.

paanchon paandavon mein se sirf yudhistir hi kyun withbody swarag pahunchen the, draupadi aur dusre chaaron paandav kyun nahi pahunche?iske piche kya story hai?

Asked by Manisha Ray in Puja & Rituals at   5:52 PM

Tingtong S's Answer

The Pandavas went on their last journey, north, into the great mountains. It was a small troup this time - just Draupadi, the five brothers, and Yudhishtira’s faithful dog. One by one they fell, victims of time and their own distinctive frailties. Draupadi went first, then Sahadeva and Nakula, then Arjuna, and finally mighty Bhima. Yudhishtira and his dog continued through the high mountain passes against the vicious wind and swirling snow.
And suddenly, there was Indra, in his chariot, offering Yudhishtira a hand up. But Indra did not allow the dog to go with Yudhishtira. So Dharmaraj refused to go to heaven without the dog. "My place is where dharma is constant. This dog has been companion, protector, friend. I will stay near him."
"Yudhishtira," said the dog as he transformed into the embodied form of god Dharma. "My son, I have been with you through your long sad journey, and I am well pleased with your devotion. Draupadi and your brothers await you in Indra’s heaven; they have all left their bodies behind. You alone, great king, alone in all the ages, will enter Indra’s heaven in this body."
Then he was given a glimpse of hell where he found all his family. So Yudhishtira once again refused to accept heaven & wanted to stay with his family in hell.
"I belong with those who have been true to themselves and have done the right thing. I will stay here," replied Yudhishtira.
And then he felt a cool breeze, and the light rose, and the air became fragrant, and Yudhishtira became aware that the sky was full of gods, radiant in their chariots, their banners waving, their smiles broad. Arjuna was there, and Bhima, and Draupadi and the twins, and their mother Kunti, and Pandu and Madri, and Karna, and King Dhritarashtra, all the god-like heros.
Once again, god Dharma descended and spoke to Yudhishtira. "All the deceptions are ended now, Yudhishtira. You are home."
And Dharma explained. "There is some good and some bad in all beings. All kings must have a glimpse of hell. You had your glimpse and were not shaken from your truth. Now you have come home, and the adventure ends in peace at last."

Why Do People Love to Kill Innocent Creatures Just For some Theeka Taste of eating Flesh?

Asked by Mahesh Arya in Puja & Rituals at   2:02 PM

Tingtong S's Answer

Those who love non-vegetarian food, don't think it's a sin to kill animals. When man lived in the forests, they might have killed smaller creatures for food & survival. The edible fruits vegetables & grains might have been discovered later.
Now for the civilized people eating flesh, there is no such explanation..that became their habit inherited from ancestors. These days, only those who follow the teachings of ahimsa & feel it a sin to kill any living organism, are strict vegetarians. Once u get the taste, u get addicted, just like smoking & drinking.

What is a hand Shake?

Asked by Anand in Self Development at   6:16 PM on October 10, 2008

Tingtong S's Answer

A handshake is an initial gesture to the other person to let him or her know that you enjoy the meeting. The handshake is usually the first thing you do when you meet someone for the first time, so it’s directly related to people's “first impressions” of you. A good handshake can exhibit self confidence, health, strength and genuine interest in meeting the other person.

could you tell me about Vasant Panchami ?

Asked by prem kumar in Puja & Rituals at   10:15 AM on October 09, 2008

Tingtong S's Answer

Vasant Panchami is the 'Spring Festival' in North India falling on the 5th day of Phalguna. This day is specially dedicated to Saraswathi the goddess of learning, wisdom, fine arts and refinement. It is the ceremonial welcome to spring when first change in the departing winter is noticed.
On this day, people colourfully attired, especially in bright shades of yellow, dance and sing and make merry. Yellow colour signifies maturity and ripeness-a glow of all that is auspicious to a Hindu mindset. A grand puja is held for goddess Saraswathi, the goddess of creativity who is the wife of Brahma, the source of creation.
At the beginning of the puja the youngest girl of the house or the one present, applies teeka on everyone’s forehead and then sprinkles water. Teeka is applied to the deity also at least thrice with liquid. The rice and flowers are picked up by the fingers and thumb and showered on to the gods. Summer is heralded with a bit of colour sprinkled on the gods. The prasadam of the goddess varies from community to community. Some have 'Ber' and 'Sangari' for the prasadam. Ber is a kind of plume which grows abundance in North India. 'Sangari' or 'Mooli ki phali' is a kind of bean that develops in the radish plant. These two items are placed in a large metal platter called 'thali' along with some yellow coloured sweets, preferably-besan, burfis or ladoos placed in it and paan (beetel leaf) along with coconut are given to everyone present for the puja.
Following the pooja, the members of the household assembles on the roof top to enjoy kite flying. Hindus all over the world celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. Some people feed Brahmans on this day. Pitri-Tarpan (ancestor worship) is done on this day.

could you tell me about Maha Shivaratri ?

Asked by prem kumar in Puja & Rituals at   10:16 AM on October 09, 2008

Tingtong S's Answer

Maha Shivaratri is celebrated throughout the country; it is particularly popular in Uttar Pradesh. Maha Shivratri falls on the I3th (or I4th) day of the dark half of 'Phalgun' (February-March). The name means "the night of Shiva". The ceremonies take place chiefly at night. This is a festival observed in honour of Lord Shiva and it is believed that on this day Lord Shiva was married to Parvati.
On this festival people worship 'Shiva - the Destroyer'. This night marks the night when Lord Shiva danced the 'Tandav'. In Andhra Pradesh, pilgrims throng the Sri Kalahasteshwara Temple at Kalahasti and the Bharamarambha Malikarjunaswamy Temple at Srisailam
People observe a strict fast on this day. Some devotees do not even take a drop of water and they keep vigil all night. The Shiva Lingam is worshipped throughout the night by washing it every three hours with milk, curd, honey, rose water, etc., whilst the chanting of the Mantra "Om Namah Shivaya" continues. Offerings of Bael leaves are made to the Lingam as Bael leaves are considered very sacred and it is said that Goddess Lakshmi resides in them.

Hymns in praise of Lord Shiva, such as the "Shiva Mahimna Stotra" of Pushpadanta or Ravana's "Shiva Tandava Stotra" are sung with great fervour and devotion. People repeat the 'Panchakshara' Mantra, "Om Namah Shivaya". He, who utters the names of Shiva during Shivratri, with perfect devotion and concentration, is freed from all sins. He reaches the abode of Shiva and lives there happily. He is liberated from the wheel of births and deaths. Many pilgrims dock to the places where there are Shiva temples.
