Asked by atul mishra in Personal Health at   11:14 AM on July 24, 2008

KHURSHEED's Answer

Non-pharmacologic therapy for high blood pressure is significant in the management of high blood pressure. In most cases, drugs are not necessary and lifestyle changes, followed religiously, can be adequate to bring the blood pressure to target levels. In others, medicines may be required, but the dose of the medicines required will be much less with better blood pressure control, when combined with rigorous lifestyle measures.

1. Weight reduction : if you are overweight then you must lose weight. Calculate your BMI and also measure your waist.
2. Diet plan - Restrict your calories as soon as the pointer goes there, calculate the calories which you need to consume each day ) so that you take only as many calories are required. Include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables , include nuts in your diet and switch from refined grain foods to whole grains and whole pulses and the diet should be low on saturated fats and total fats. You can achieve 8-14 mm of Hg reduction in blood pressure through this diet.
3. Restrict salty foods. Your total salt intake in a day should not exceed 5 grams(approx 1 teaspoon). Don't put extra salt in the salad & foods on the table.
4. Regularly exercise for a minimum of half an hour every day.
5. Avoid or minimize alcohol.
6. Relax through yoga, dance, meditation etc.
7. Give up tobacco and smoking.

Heart Kidneys
Eyes Arteries

* Presence of medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and other risk factors like use of tobacco, obesity and high blood fat levels(lipid profile) etc.

Do you believe in natural cures for every disease?

Asked by KABIR RIBAK in Personal Health at   4:40 PM on July 24, 2008

KHURSHEED's Answer

The fact of the matter is that God can heal ANY illness. YOU SIMPLY MUST PRAY FOR IT, AND BELIEVE! You can help this process by using the natural cures that God has created for all of us. Every physical and emotional problem can be dramatically reduced by living a clean life, with no drugs, legal or illegal, no smoking or drinking, doing moderate weight lifting exercise, which stimulates the production of the vital human growth hormone (HGH), and eating a diet consisting of mostly raw, uncooked fruits, herbs, vegtables and grains. Cooking destroys the vital enzymes and natural vitamins. Combining this with faith in God's healing power is the secret to natural healing. True healing is awaiting our discovery, just deeper and less accepted than we’d like.

How can you prevent strokes?

Asked by atul mishra in Personal Health at   11:20 AM on July 24, 2008

KHURSHEED's Answer

Following are the ways from the prevention of strokes :

Know your own blood pressure . Have your blood pressure checked at least once a year, and, if it is elevated, treat it diligently, to keep it under control.
If you smoke, stop; If you chew tobacco or snuff tobacco, stop immediately .
If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation.
Include exercise in your daily routine.
Eat a low-salt, low-fat diet.
Eat whole grains and whole pulses.
Ask your physician if you have circulatory problems that could increase the risk of stroke; Find out from your doctor, whether you have atrial fibrillation, which encourages the formation of blood clots that could cause a stroke.
Find out if you have high cholesterol; If you do, then, lower it by lifestyle changes like regular exercise and change in diet. If despite the lifestyle changes being adopted the levels persist to be high then think of medication to lower your cholesterol.
If you have diabetes, follow your doctors' advice to control the condition.
Eat 10-40 gms of unsalted non-fried nuts everyday.
If you are recovering from illness or a surgery and are in bed, then make sure you exercise your legs by raising it up and down 10-15 times every day.

If you experience any stroke symptoms, including sudden weakness of the face or a limb, a blurring of vision, dizziness, or an intense headache, seek immediate medical attention.

KHURSHEED's Answer

If you have a vegetable juicer this would be the best way but if not, Just break the leaves open and scrape out the gel from inside. You can just eat the gell as is which is what I would recommend because it is easier or you can squeeze the gel through a strainer to extract the liquid.

How Fruits Prevent Cancer in all ways ?

Asked by atul mishra in Personal Health at   11:22 AM on July 24, 2008

KHURSHEED's Answer

Cut a kiwifruit in half, then scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Now eat! Kiwi is a little hand grenade of cancer-fighting antioxidants, including vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein, and copper. You can also rub a couple of cut kiwifruit on a low-fat cut of meat as a tenderizer.

Have your partner feed you grapes. They're great sources of resveratrol, the cancer-protecting compound found in wine, but don't have the alcohol of wine, which can increase the risk of breast cancer in women. Plus, the closeness such an activity engenders (we hope) strengthens your immune system.

Make a batch of fresh lemonade or limeade. A daily dose of citrus fruits may cut the risk of mouth, throat, and stomach cancers by half, Australian researchers found.

What should i do to help with daily headaches rather than taking asprin everyday?

Asked by KABIR RIBAK in Personal Health at   4:40 PM on July 24, 2008

KHURSHEED's Answer

There are two different Treatments For Chronic Daily Migraine Headaches. You can treat the symptoms of a migraine with pain relief medication or you can prevent the migraine before the symptoms appear.

First, it is important to understand what a migraine headache is. The pain of a migraine headache is often described as an intense pulsing or throbbing pain in one area of the head. It is often accompanied by extreme sensitivity to light and sound, nausea, and vomiting. A Migraine is three times more common in women than in men. Some individuals can predict the onset of a migraine because it is preceded by an "aura," visual disturbances that appear as flashing lights, zig-zag lines or a temporary loss of vision. People with migraines tend to have recurring attacks triggered by a lack of food or sleep, exposure to light, or hormonal irregularities (only in women). Build up of toxins, low blood sugar, anxiety and stress can also be triggers.

When you treat a migraine with medication, it may relieve the pain. If you have frequent migraine headaches, you know that with frequent use, the medications can become less effective and you risk the possibility of becoming addicted to the drug.

Asked by madhu sudhan in Personal Health at   9:07 PM on July 24, 2008

KHURSHEED's Answer

Hi
carmex is the answer. I will put a thick layer on and rub my lips together really hard and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Then wipe it off. That usually takes off the dead skin. Then put on a thin layer. Your lips will have a healthy appearance. and they will feel tingly.

P.S. I hope the best. Top that with some gloss and youll have healthy, lucious looking lips.

What is the best way to keep a mosquito bite from itching?

Asked by KABIR RIBAK in Personal Health at   4:44 PM on July 24, 2008

KHURSHEED's Answer

Treat mosquito bites using garlic - Take a knob off the garlic and cut in half. Rub the garlic onto the mosquito bites. You should notice immediate relief from the itching. This is a great remedy for young children if they get bitten. But the best remedy of all is still prevention.

Treat mosquito bites using calamine lotion - Putting calamine lotion on the mosquito bite will help them from itching. This is good for smaller children who don't understand the concept of NO Scratching. I use calamine lotion on my children if the dreaded mosquito attacks them.

Treat mosquito bites using baking soda - Mix enough baking soda with plane water to make a paste consistency. Rub the paste over the mosquito bites. This will help the itch. It works like calamine lotion.

Treat mosquito bites using medicated gold bond - Medicated gold bond powder or lotion is great for getting rid of the itch from mosquito bites. You can use it whenever you need to. This a safe way of stopping the itch. Any other stop itch powder or cream will also work fine.

Treat mosquito bites using bananas - When you eat your banana's keep the skins in the freezer. Whenever you or someone you know gets mozzie bites just rub the bits with the inside of the banana peel. I cut my peels up into smaller pieces and always have them on hand.
