What are the specialties of Art Clay silver?

Asked by dhevana in Jewellery & Accessories at   2:51 PM on December 20, 2007

Tashi's Answer

Clay Silver is pure silver (99.9%) metal powder mixed with a non-toxic binder
in clay form. It can be manipulated just like any other clay (moulded, carved,
rolled, sculpted, sanded, filed, engraved, drilled, pre-polished) prior to
firing. When fired in a kiln or by a torch, the binder burns away leaving the
silver behind. It shrinks about 8-10% (the low-fire shrinking about 8-9%)
during firing as the binder burns away.

What is the difference between white gold and platinum?

Asked by wakeup in Jewellery & Accessories at   3:05 PM on December 20, 2007

Tashi's Answer

Platinum is a precious metal that costs more than gold. It usually is
mixed with other similar metals, known as the platinum group metals: iridium, palladium, ruthenium, rhodium and osmium. All of the platinum jewelry sold by Jaipurhandicrafts.com is the highest grade platinum, which is 95% platinum. White gold is rhodium plated to give it the same white look as platinum.

What were the Christmas ornaments made of, back in history?

Asked by Sindoori in Jewellery & Accessories at   3:14 PM on December 20, 2007

Tashi's Answer

Back in history people didn't celebrete the way we do now. Back then they always put a star on the top of the tree, it was a tradition back then. Sometimes they would use popcorn on stings as ornaments. They might have had light, but it depends on how far your going back. People back then didn't have as much money as we do now, so they used creative ways to decorate.

What types of metals work best with the Art Clay Silver?

Asked by Answerme in Jewellery & Accessories at   3:08 PM on December 20, 2007

Tashi's Answer

Fine silver, sterling silver, brass and copper all can work well with Art Clay Silver. Fine silver wire can be placed directly into the Art Clay and then fired together. The heat of the firing fuses them together, and there is no need to solder them. Brass and copper can also be used, but require special attention in design, so that the metals are captured in the Art Clay. Sterling silver works best with Low Fire Art Clay, and must be fired at lower temperatures to work successfully.
