most of the people are not happy with what they have bcoz nowadays there is so much showoff that everybody wants him to b the best and for this they desire more and more and r never happy or satisfied with what ever they have.

yes i 100% agree to this that overcoming emotions is a sign of self develoment bcoz if u can overcome emotions then it means u are emotionally and mentally developed and this is one of the sign of self development.
