Homemade cure for blackheads?

Asked by Pallavi in Beauty & Fashion at   8:39 PM on September 28, 2008

Sanya Tahir's Answer

Fenugreek is a powerful anti-blackhead herb. To cure your blackheads crush some fenugreek leaves and make a paste with water. Apply this on the affected area, say face, for about 10 minutes. And rise with lukewarm water. This will curtail blackhead growth. For clear skin, free from blackheads, apply this paste every night before bed.

This is another easy to apply night pack for blackheads. Apply a mix of 1 teaspoon of coriander leaves juice and half teaspoon of turmeric powder before going to bed. And next morning, wash it with the cold water. Not only your blackheads will be reduced but your skin complexion will also be improved.

Mix 1 teaspoon of curd and rice flour to make a paste. Apply it on the blackhead affected area. And wash your face with cold water.

Honey is really good for your skin. If you apply warm honey on the affected area and wash it after 10 minutes, you will benefit a lot. Honey will act as a natural peel to your blackhead affected skin. Besides, removing blackheads, it will also improve your skin.

Put in the exact ratio of 1:2:4, fuller's earth, glycerin soap, and almond powder in warm water to make a smooth paste. Now put it over your blackheads. Keep it for some time and then wash off.

Homemade packs for wrinkles?

Asked by Pallavi in Beauty & Fashion at   8:40 PM on September 28, 2008

Sanya Tahir's Answer

A cabbage pack is also very effective. Mix to a paste the juice of a few cabbage leaves, a tablespoon of honey and a little yeast. Apply and leave on face and neck for 20 minutes before washing off with warm water; ending in a cold splash.

An egg white (not beaten) spread over the skin near eyes and neck, left to dry for an hour before wiping off with cotton wool, dipped in ice cold water, removes wrinkles.

Wrinkles or lines around the mouth are caused by smoking, advancing age, dry skin and laughing movements. Keep lips moist with a coating of petroleum jelly every day, to discourage the small lines which radiate from the lips. Rub thick papaya slices all around your mouth; or better still, make a paste of papaya, pat it around the mouth and lie down.

Equal parts of egg and glycerin with a little rose water can be applied on upper lips, left for 15 minutes and washed off; this will help remove fine wrinkles that appear in the area.

For a wrinkled neck, mash a very ripe banana with a teaspoon of pure olive oil. Tie your hair up so that it does not smudge the neck pack. Lie down and pat the banana pack all over your neck. Rinse with cold water after 15-20 minutes

Curcumin: Can it slow cancer growth?

Asked by rinku in Personal Health at   2:32 PM on September 23, 2008

Sanya Tahir's Answer

The studies show that curcumin can indeed slow inflammation. It also appears to slow the spread of cancer (metastasis), slow down the growth of new tumor blood vessels (angiogenesis), and cause cancer cells to die the way normal cells do (apoptosis).

What's more, these effects don't appear to be limited to just one type of cancer. Curcumin has shown effects in lab studies against metastatic melanoma, mantle cell lymphoma, and other cancers.
However, not all research on curcumin has had such positive results. At least one laboratory study suggests curcumin may inhibit the action of other chemotherapy drugs, including camptothecin, mechlorethamine, doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamide. That's why it's so important to conduct well-designed studies in people of how curcumin affects different types of cancer.

Could you give the right way to apply make up?

Asked by Namrata in Beauty & Fashion at   11:23 PM on September 28, 2008

Sanya Tahir's Answer

Coordinate your colors beforehand and remember, bolder colors are for exotic looks only and can play havoc on your face, if not used expertly. The basic list of products that any makeup-conscious lady needs, includes:
Blusher,
Eye Shadow,
Eyebrow Color,
Eyeliner,
Face powder,
Foundation,
Lip brush,
Lip liner,
Lipstick,
Mascara, and
Moisturizer.
Moisturize your face, especially people with dry skin.
Apply foundation that matches your natural skin tone for a smooth skin effect.
Apply powder for that flawless look to your face and matte down any shiny areas on your face. Gently tap the powder pad on the back of your hand before applying it on the face to shake off any excess powder.
Blush adds color and freshens up your face instantly. See 'Applying Blush' for more details.
Pluck your eyebrows, apply eye shadow, eyeliner and mascara and do eye makeup very very carefully. If you are not confident, leave this part out completely.
Classic, tried and tested natural/neutral color combinations are best for eyes, unless you are quite an expert.
Define the lips using the lip liner and fill up the lip color using the brush.
You may use lip-gloss too for a sexier look.

What is Granuloma?

Asked by Kailash Negi in Personal Health at   5:21 PM on September 27, 2008

Sanya Tahir's Answer

A granuloma is a medical condition characterized by a noncancerous inflammation in the tissue. Typically, a granuloma encompasses only a small part of the tissue. For the most part, a person with a granuloma does not experience any signs or symptoms. In fact, most granulomas are found through an x-ray that is performed for unrelated reasons. When found during an x-ray examination, the granuloma is often mistaken for cancer.

The majority of granulomas are the result of an injury to the tissue, particularly as the result of infection. In some cases, a granuloma may occur in the lungs as well. In fact, the most common cause of granuloma is a fungal infection in the lungs, which is called histoplasmosis.
It is essential for granuloma inguinale to be treated right away, as it can cause a great deal of damage to the genitals and can spread to other areas of the body. In order to treat the condition, it is generally necessary to take antibiotics and to allow the area to heal for three to five weeks. In addition, a person who becomes infected by granuloma inguinale is capable of catching the disease again at a later time.

What is Walking pneumonia?

Asked by Kailash Negi in Personal Health at   5:21 PM on September 27, 2008

Sanya Tahir's Answer

Walking pneumonia is a term used to describe a mild case of pneumonia. It is a lung infection that is caused by the mycoplasma pneumoniae organism. Walking pneumonia is different from other types of pneumonia in that, even if untreated, walking pneumonia would not cause a person to be confined to a bed or require a hospital stay.

Signs and symptoms of walking pneumonia usually include a severe cough, fever, abdominal pain, headaches, and chills.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae, the organism that causes walking pneumonia, can be contagious if contact with the infected person is prolonged. Walking pneumonia is transmitted through airborne droplets, which are dispersed when a person talks, sneezes, coughs or laughs.

The onset of walking pneumonia takes approximately 1 to 3 weeks, beginning gradually, with the earliest sign being a decrease in energy. Soon thereafter, cold-like symptoms begin. You will be able to distinguish the difference between walking pneumonia and a common cold because walking pneumonia will get worse over 2 weeks.

What is Pink Eye ?

Asked by SUKUMARAN in Personal Health at   11:58 AM on September 27, 2008

Sanya Tahir's Answer

Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is redness and inflammation of the membranes (conjuctiva) covering the whites of the eyes and the membranes on the inner part of the eyelids. These membranes react to a wide range of bacteria, viruses, allergy-provoking agents, irritants, and toxic agents, as well as to underlying diseases within the body. Viral and bacterial forms of conjunctivitis are common in childhood, but they can occur in people of any age. Overall however, there are many causes of pink eye. These can be classified as either infectious or noninfectious.

The leading cause of a red, inflamed eye is virus infection. A number of different viruses can be responsible for the infection. Viral pink eye symptoms are usually associated with more of a watery discharge that is not green or yellow in color. Often, viral "cold-like" symptoms, such as sinus congestion and runny nose, are also present. The eyelids may be swollen. Sometimes looking at bright lights is painful. While viral pink eye may not require an antibiotic, those affected should see a doctor, as occasionally this form of pink eye can be associated with infection of the cornea (the clear portion of the front of the eyeball).
