What is SRAM?

Asked by enviornment in Computers & Technology at   1:08 PM on November 22, 2007

Raghu's Answer

Static random access memory (SRAM) is a type of semiconductor memory. The word "static" indicates that the memory retains its contents as long as power remains applied, unlike dynamic RAM (DRAM) that needs to be periodically refreshed (nevertheless, SRAM should not be confused with read-only memory and flash memory, since it is volatile memory and preserves data only while power is continuously applied). SRAM should not be confused with SDRAM, which stands for synchronous DRAM and is entirely different from SRAM, or with pseudostatic RAM ([PSRAM]), which is DRAM configured to function, to an extent, as SRAM.

What is RAID?

Asked by cool in Computers & Technology at   6:33 AM on November 22, 2007

Raghu's Answer

In computing, specifically computer data storage, a Redundant Array of Independent Drives (or Disks), also known as Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives (or Disks), (RAID) is an umbrella term for computer data storage schemes that divide and/or replicate data among multiple hard drives. RAID can be designed to provide increased data reliability and/or increased I/O (input/output) performance. A number of standard schemes have evolved which are referred to as levels. There were five RAID levels originally conceived, but many more variations have evolved, notably several nested levels and many non-standard levels (mostly proprietary).

What is Raw File?

Asked by cool in Computers & Technology at   6:34 AM on November 22, 2007

Raghu's Answer

A raw image file contains minimally processed data from the image sensor of a digital camera or image scanner. They are often incorrectly refered to as RAW image files. There currently is not one RAW specification. Raw files are so named because they are not yet processed and ready to be used with a bitmap graphics editor or printed. Normally, the image will be processed by a raw converter in a wide-gamut internal colorspace where precise adjustments can be made before conversion to an RGB file format such as TIFF or JPEG for storage, printing, or further manipulation.

What is Raster Graphic?

Asked by cool in Computers & Technology at   6:33 AM on November 22, 2007

Raghu's Answer

In computer graphics, a raster graphics image, digital image, or bitmap, is a data structure representing a generally rectangular grid of pixels, or points of color, viewable via a computer monitor, paper, or other display medium. Raster images are commonly stored in image files with varying formats.

What is RAM?

Asked by cool in Computers & Technology at   6:33 AM on November 22, 2007

Raghu's Answer

Random access memory (usually known by its acronym, RAM) is a type of computer data storage. It takes the form of integrated circuits that allow the stored data to be accessed in any order — that is, at random and without the physical movement of the storage medium or a physical reading head. RAM is a volatile memory as the information or instructions stored in it will be lost if the power is switched off.

What is Tweak?

Asked by cool in Computers & Technology at   6:36 AM on November 22, 2007

Raghu's Answer

Tweak is a graphical user interface (GUI) layer to the Squeak development environment, which in turn is an integrated development environment based on the SmallTalk-80 computer programming language. Tweak is meant to replace an earlier graphic user interface layer called Morphic.

What is Tutorial?

Asked by cool in Computers & Technology at   6:35 AM on November 22, 2007

Raghu's Answer

On the Internet, a tutorial is a document, software, or other media created for the purpose of instruction for any of a wide variety of tasks. Tutorials usually have the following characteristics: A presentation of content, usually with an example or examples, often broken up into discrete modules or sections. Some method of review that reinforces or tests understanding of the content in the related module or section. A transition to additional modules or sections that builds on the instructions already provided. Tutorials can be linear or branching. While many writers refer to a mere list of instructions or tips as a tutorial, this usage can be misleading.

What is TTL?

Asked by cool in Computers & Technology at   6:35 AM on November 22, 2007

Raghu's Answer

Time to live (sometimes abbreviated TTL) is a limit on the period of time or number of iterations or transmissions in computer and computer network technology that a unit of data (e.g. a packet) can experience before it should be discarded.

What is TLD?

Asked by cool in Computers & Technology at   6:36 AM on November 22, 2007

Raghu's Answer

A top-level domain (TLD), sometimes referred to as a top-level domain name (TLDN), is the last part of an Internet domain name; that is, the letters which follow the final dot of any domain name. For example, in the domain name www.example.com, the top-level domain is com (or COM, as domain names are not case-sensitive).
