What is CORN and how can it be cured permanantly ?

Asked by bims k in Personal Health at   5:04 PM on April 28, 2008

Rekha's Answer

Any corn may be speedily and permanently cured. The treatment is of three kinds—preventive, palliative, and curative.
I

The preventive treatment lies in adopting such measures as will secure freedom from pressure and friction for the parts most liable to corns. To this end a well-fitting shoe is essential. The shoes should be of well-seasoned leather, soft and elastic, and should be cut to a proper model.
II

The palliative treatment is generally carried out with chemical substances. The best method, is, briefly, as follows: A ring of glycerine jelly is painted around the circumference of the corn, to form a raised rampart. A piece of salicylic plaster mull is then cut to the size and shape of the central depression, and applied to the surface of the corn. This is then covered with a layer of glycerine jelly, and before it sets a pad of cotton wool is applied to the surface. This process is repeated as often as is necessary, until the horny layer separates and is cast off.

If the point of a sharp, thin-bladed knife be introduced at the groove which runs around the margin of the corn, and be made to penetrate toward its central axis, by the exercise of a little manual dexterity the horny part of the corn can be easily made to separate from the parts beneath.
III

Any method of treatment to be curative must secure the removal of the entire corn, together with the underlying bursa. It is mainly in connection with the latter structure that complications, which alone make a corn a matter of serious import, are likely to arise. Freeland confidently advises the full and complete excision of corns, on the basis of his experience in upward of 60 cases.

Every precaution having been taken to render the operation aseptic, a spot is selected for the injection of the anaesthetic solution. The skin is rendered insensitive with ethyl chloride, and 5 minims of a 4 per cent solution of cocaine is injected into the subcutaneous tissue beneath the corn. After a wait of a few minutes the superficial parts of the site of the incision are rendered insensitive with ethyl chloride. Anaesthesia is now complete.

Two semielliptical incisions meeting at their extremities are made through the skin around the circumference of the growth, care being taken that they penetrate well into the subcutaneous tissue. Seizing the parts included in the incision with a pair of dissecting forceps, a wedge-shaped piece of tissue—including the corn, a layer of skin and subcutaneous tissue, and the bursa if present—is dissected out. The oozing is pretty free, and it is sometimes necessary to torsion a small vessel; but the hemorrhage is never severe. The edges of the wound are brought together by one or two fine sutures; an antiseptic dressing is applied, and the wound is left to heal—primary union in a few days being the rule. The rapidity of the healing is often phenomenal. There is produced a scar tissue at the site of the corn, but this leads to no untoward results.

Diet Challenge: The Benefits of Drinking Mineral Water

Perrier Sparkling Mineral Water, 25 fl oz Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water, 33.8 fl oz San Pellegrino Natural Sparkling Mineral Water, 25.3 fl oz

Back to our Diet Challenges! Many of the ladies within our MIH group stopped drinking soft drinks (diets drinks included) completely and found that by doing so they lost quite a few pounds. Something else they will soon discover after having been off of sodas for a period of time that when they do eventually take a sip of the soda of their choice, it does not taste so great and will wonder why on earth they even drank that stuff! One only needs to do research on what sodas do to your body not to mention what diet drinks will do...ohhh could that be a blog in and of itself?! I will have a Coke every now and then but after a few sips...I'm done. Sodas just do not hold the same appeal as they once did.

Mineral water takes a bit of getting used to. It is like drinking a soda but without the artificial flavoring and chemicals. It is pure water with natural fizz and ohhhh the health benefits - links provided below. I have found one that I like that seems to be milder - Gerolsteiner (middle picture). The only one available to me, which is about 30 miles away, is the third picture - San Pelligrino for $1.33. What I love about the above brands is that I can find them in bottles and not plastic (I am not a big fan of plastic anything especially when it comes to storing food).

There are things you need to watch for before buying and drinking mineral water...

What To Look For In Mineral Water (outside link)

and if you are curious about what the health benefits are of drinking mineral water and what it contains...

What Is Contained In Mineral Water (outside link)

What about tap water? How many of us have gotten a glass of cold water straight from the tap only to find that when we go to drink it...it smells like that of a swimming pool? Mmmmm...drink up! Not a big fan of tap water.

Distilled water...to me that is dead water. With distilled water you have basically sterilized liquid...sterile being the key word there. There are no vitamins or minerals because you are drinking the steamed part of the water.

There are more types of water out there and in no way am I telling you what to drink or not to drink. Just be a wise consumer that's all!

I can tell you that drinking mineral water is a wonderful little diet secret. You are providing your body with the trace minerals needed thereby allowing your body to function properly and to burn any excess not needed in the body. If I get a little hungry in between meals...I sip on my mineral water...works great. I will say here that should I get hungry in between meals...that I think about what I have/have not fed my body during the day. It may mean I need to make sure I eat properly at the next meal. Why is it that we never look at our hunger in that way...we just naturally reach for the junk food instead? Our body's are trying to tell us something and we are not listening...just stuffing it with nothing foods with nothing vitamins and nothing minerals.

When you give your body the proper nutrition it needs...it will function the way it is supposed to and you will find that you will not be hungry in between meals and you won't crave the sugary stuff! Nothing wrong with sugary stuff...I like to have a bite or two of that every once in awhile with my 4 o'clock coffee...but in moderation and I allow myself to enjoy that little treat.

Should you decide to give mineral water a try...find a pretty glass to drink from. I have recently been finding and collecting the Big Top Peanut Butter Glasses (outside link provided for example only) and love to use them for not only water but for iced tea as well.

One more note I would like to mention here and just a personal opinion...I don't

If you are really willing to quit, then quit gradually. First, make it 5, then 4, then 3 - this way gradually you can make 1 in a day. Think positive, have faith in yourself, that you will be able to withdraw yourself from this poisonous habit.

any home remedy for cough and asthma for a child having it occasionally

Asked by rajesh goyl in Personal Health at   2:01 PM on April 28, 2008

Rekha's Answer

Asthma (Az-muh) is a chronic disease that affects your airways. The airways are the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs. If you have asthma, the inside walls of your airways are inflamed (swollen). The inflammation (IN-fla-MAY-shun) makes the airways very sensitive, and they tend to react strongly to things that you are allergic to or find irritating. When the airways react, they get narrower, and less air flows through to your lung tissue. This causes symptoms like wheezing (a whistling sound when you breathe), coughing, chest tightness, and trouble breathing, especially at night and in the early morning.

Asthma is a chronic disease of the respiratory system in which the airway occasionally constricts, becomes inflamed, and is lined with excessive amounts of mucus, often in response to one or more triggers. In children, the most common triggers are viral illnesses such as those that cause the common cold. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. The airway constriction responds to bronchodilators.
