Dude modding PS2 means that we are opening the PS2 and adding a MOD chip IC to it +few electrical soldering work is done, Once the PS2 is modded U will be able to play any pirated PS2 games + u can play games by downloading them from internet and burning them on to a DVD.
Opening the PS2 console means loosing the Sony Warranty on it.

Swap Magic is a CD Based Modchip for the PS2, that is we can boot up the PS2 using a slide card and a CD. If u are using the swap magic then u are not opening the PS2, and warranty is still active.

Dude if u want my suggestion then go for modding the PS2 as u can enjoy the full extent of it at lower price. Dont go for Swap magic as it sometimes may not work for some games or may not work at all.
I have a PS2 which is modded and I have played all my favorite games on it spending very less money and its been 2 years I did not face any problem.
