What are the causes of "PARALYSIS" ?

Asked by Tarachand in Fitness at   10:03 PM on October 09, 2008

pooja gupte's Answer

Paralysis is the loss of power to move one or more muscles in the body. It is usually casued due to damage to the nervous system. Brain is like the control center in our body it sends and transmits impulses to all parts of the body including the muscle thus causing movement. The brain sends and recieves messages through neurons or nerves which make up the nervous system. Any damage to them leads to break up of the circuit and no messages can be transmitted. This causes loss of power to bring about movement of the affected muscle.
Damage to the nervous system could be caused due to a stroke, multliple sclerosis, trauma to the head or the spine.

Why it is possible to lift greater amounts of weight through the mid-range of joint motion in comparison to the ends of the range of motion?

Asked by Roberta in Fitness at   8:59 AM on October 14, 2008

pooja gupte's Answer

Hi Roberta what you say is very true what I feel is in certain movements for example the dumbell flys when you complete the movement towards the end when the dumbell is closer to your body it is out of the line of gravity where as half way through there is a strong gravitational force that is pulling it in the opposite direction. When weight training always check that you are working against gravity to derieve maximum benefits. For example try doing the fly movement on a cable cross over where the weight stack always remains in line with gravity

Asked by RAKESH in Fitness at   11:11 AM on September 08, 2008

pooja gupte's Answer

Hi Rakesh You should start with some form of resistance training not with heavy weights but medrate intensity. Also it is important to hire a certified trainer who can guide you with the exercises. It has been proved that resistance training does help to increase calcium absorption and improve bone density.

Along with your supplements you can also include foods such as milk, curd, rajgira, ragi, spincah, broccoli in your diet as they are a good source of calcium. If you consume tea, coffee or cola then minimise or aoid it as much as possible especially should never be taken with your calcium supplements as it hampers calcium absorbtion.
