Who sang the song `Manzil vo hi hai pyar ki' (Film: Kathputli) and why he was almost removed by Shankar of Shankar Jaikishen fame?

Subir Sen sang for the movie Kathputli (1957). When the song `Manzil vo hi hai pyar ki' was being recorded by SJ, the new singer Subir Sen could not render it properly. There were more than 18 takes and yet singer Subir Sen could not deliver. Finally, Shankar got so upset that he decided to replace Subir Sen with some other singer. But Jaikishen persuaded Shankar to try one more time. Jaikishen advised Subir Sen to concentrate a little bit more. This encouraged Subir Sen and he did full justice to the song at the next take, and finally the song was recorded to the satisfaction of Shankar. This song went on to become a hit.

The movie was originally titled Akoori, a traditional Parsi scrambled-eggs-like side dish, to reflect the 'scrambled' Sethna family. The name was changed as majority of audience won't get the meaning. The director, however, has included a scene of Akoori being prepared where a thousand eggs are broken in a large vessel. Homi Adajania directed the film "Being cyrus."

Asha bhosle sang the song after Lata refusal. Lata had refused to sing the song `Main baharon ki natkhat rani' (Film: Boot Polish), because initially the lyrics were `bazaron ki', which was objectionable to Lata.

They had an unwritten agreement between them by which they would not disclose which song was composed by whom. This understanding was violated by Jaikishan when in a signed article in the magazine Filmfare, he identified the song "Yeh mera prem patra" from the film Sangam as his own composition. This infuriated Shankar and was one of the main reasons of serious differences between them.

Lata called Mehboob Khan, the famous Producer and Director of Oscar nominated Film: Mother India who was undergoing a medical treatment in a hospital in Los Angeles in USA. At that time, Mehboob Khan told Lata that he was very impatient to hear the melodious soulful song Rasik Balma from Lata herself over the phone, since the record of this song was not available in USA at that time. "Oh, Rasik Balma from Chori Chori…?" asked Lata and she sang the entire song over the phone for Mehboob Khan. She sang this song over the telephone every single day while Mehboob Khan was recuperating in the Los Angeles hospital. Later, Mehboob Khan admitted how much this song had helped him recover faster from his illness.
