An abbreviation for Integrated Drive Electronics, which is the name of a standard interface used to connect primarily disk and CD-ROM drives to a computer system. See also "EIDE" and "ATAPI."
A hard drive connection type. IDE stands for Integrated/Intelligent Drive Electronics. It is an ATA specification (the terms are often used interchangable). This is the most common disk interface for hard drives, CD-ROM drives, etc.
A disk interface commonly used in Intel-based PCs. The interface is inexpensive and simple but is virtually nonexistent outside of the Intel PC world. Recently some CD-ROM drives and tape drives have appeared for the IDE interface..
