What is broadcast flag?

Asked by nilisha in Computers & Technology at   6:24 PM on November 02, 2007

Jyotishmaan's Answer

A broadcast flag is a set of status bits (or a "flag") sent in the data stream of a digital television program that indicates whether or not the data stream can be recorded, or if there are any restrictions on recorded content. Possible restrictions include the inability to save an unencrypted digital program to a hard disk or other non-volatile storage, inability to make secondary copies of recorded content (in order to share or archive), forceful reduction of quality when recording (such as reducing high-definition video to the resolution of standard TVs), and inability to skip over commercials.

What is satellite Internet connection?

Asked by nilisha in Computers & Technology at   6:19 PM on November 02, 2007

Jyotishmaan's Answer

Satellite Internet Connection (SIC) is a service that uses a satellite dish to provide dedicated high-speed, always-on Internet connection. It's receiving interest from businesses and people that can't subscribe to traditional high-speed Internet access methods such as DSL. This is basically the case for most areas outside of large cities. Most users of SIC can expect download speeds of up to 500Kbps and upload speeds around 50Kbps. While this is slower than many cable and DSL connections, it's about 10 times faster than standard dial-up connection.

what is the difference between CDATA and PCDATA?

Asked by Baskarsayee in Computers & Technology at   11:10 PM on November 01, 2007

Jyotishmaan's Answer

CDATA means character data. CDATA is text that will NOT be parsed by a parser. Tags inside the text will NOT be treated as markup and entities will not be expanded. PCDATA means parsed character data. These are the character data (as the text) found between the start tag and the end tag of an XML element. PCDATA is text that WILL be parsed by a parser. The text will be examined by the parser for entities and markup. Tags inside the text will be treated as markup and entities will be expanded. However, parsed character data should not contain any &, , or characters; these need to be represented by the & < and > entities, respectively.

What is infotainment ?

Asked by madhuhot in Computers & Technology at   10:54 PM on November 01, 2007

Jyotishmaan's Answer

The term infotainment is a combinational term of of two sub-terms namely- information and entertainment. The term infromation means - any sort of data which has been processed in the context of a computer system. In other words, any raw data when it is processed systematically in a computer in a series of steps, gets transformed into "information" from the term "data". the data means raw facts, figures, etc example, your date of birth, the year 2007, etc. The term entertainment is associated mainly with the Television programs (such as Cartoon Channel), Web-Sites (On line games etc). on the internet. When the information ahs been combined with the entertainment in the Television such as the program, Animal Planet channel, it could be classed as infotainment as it is a combination of both information and entertainment. Likewise, in the internet, playing online game of chess with a friend somewhere else can be classed as infotainment. Thank you.

whats is a ip adress?

Asked by umesh in Computers & Technology at   6:42 PM on November 02, 2007

Jyotishmaan's Answer

IP address stands for internet protocol address. As of now IEEE and IETF are following the ipv4, which means all the machines connected to the internet aer assigned a 4 byte ( 4* 8 bits ) ip address, like 202.136.134.32 etc. However, as the internet is growing fast, the ip addresses are getting exhausted depending on the type of network, the machines are connected to like Class A, B, C, D etc. So the computer engineers, have come up with future planning of having a 8 byte IP address ie, 8*6 = 48 bit addresses.
