How to Handle Bullies on Sports Teams ?

Asked by suresh in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:56 AM on March 02, 2009

Jateen Gutta's Answer

Dealing with bullies on your child's sports team is a difficult task. One should not upset the child further by interfering too much. But proper care and an simple eye watching should be kept on children.

Bullies care cruel enough to make a child lose self-esteem and the desire to play sports. Youth sports should be fun and appealing for a child, no matter what age. Unfortunately bullies can be a hindrance.

Bullies can make a child feel like a failure, lonely, unhappy and afraid. Reassure your child. Let him know that it's not his fault, and there's nothing wrong with him.

How to Cope with Uninformed Sports Announcers ?

Asked by suresh in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:56 AM on March 02, 2009

Jateen Gutta's Answer

1. Mute the TV. Not hearing the dumb broadcasters obviously helps, but you still want to have some sort of play-by-play audio, so consider the next step.
2. Turn to your team's radio station. Even if the game is broadcast on national radio (which is quite an oddity), you might prefer the radio broadcasters.

3. Invite a friend to come, watch the game, and poke fun at the mistakes of the announcers. This can be quite funny at times.
4. Pretend to call the game yourself. It sounds silly, but can be entertaining.

5. Attend the game. If money is no object, and the game is important,go to the game. Going to the game is better then any broadcasters.
6. Skip the game. Many of these types of games won't matter much. Stay in the know by checking the box score tomorrow.

WHat does modern era mean in sports? ?

Asked by suresh in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:57 AM on March 02, 2009

Jateen Gutta's Answer

The modern era in the CFL began when the CFL was formed in 1958. Prior to that there were three football leagues in Canada that could compete for the Grey Cup.

The IRFU (Interprovincial Rugby Union {I kid you not}), the WIFU (Western Inter provincial Football Union) and the ORFU (Ontario Rugby Football Union).
That is why there are some strange winners of the Grey Cup in early days.

How to Lose Weight with Wii Sports ?

Asked by suresh in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:57 AM on March 02, 2009

Jateen Gutta's Answer

Do a Wii fitness age test, or you can simply start training. Aim to do 30 minutes game play everyday on Wii sport. Make sure you use full body movement, e.g. when hitting the tennis ball, do it as if you were playing real tennis, moving around and using full swing.
When you get thirsty, stay away from the tonics, juices, or other high caffeine, sugar drinks. Guzzle water instead.

Keep your original diet if you want to, or you could cut out sugary snacks and substitute healthy fruit and veg to speed up weight loss. Even if you don't change your diet, it is still possible to lose weight
Don't expect results straight away. It takes dedication, patience and motivation for anything to start happening.

Keep at it! If you really can't be bothered, get up and try it anyway. If after 10 minutes you still feel lethargic, stop playing. However you may start to enjoy the movement and continue to play the full 30 minutes.

How to Love an Unsuccessful Sports Team ?

Asked by suresh in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:57 AM on March 02, 2009

Jateen Gutta's Answer

Establish for sure who your favorite team is. Do not choose your team based on who won the last championship. No fairweather fans allowed.
Learn valuable information about the team, such as their roster and some of their stats. This will come in handy later.

Buy at least one or more of the following team merchandise: T-shirts, hats, noise makers, playing cards, bumper stickers, shot glasses, pennants, giant inflatable blimps, or jersey. You want to make sure people know who your team is.
Name at least one of your children/pets/loved ones after a player on the team. This will ensure that you have to be a life-long fan.

Be prepared for haters. This is where your knowledge about the team will come in handy as you wittingly defend your team's reputation and make the person look like an idiot.
Learn at least one embarrassing fact about all other teams, so you can quickly turn the conversation away from how bad your team sucks.
As your team continues to lose, take joy in the fact that next year will be better.

How Does a Sports Memorabilia Collector Get Autographs? ?

Asked by suresh in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:57 AM on March 02, 2009

Jateen Gutta's Answer

Sports-memorabilia collectors know where to find their favorite players in order to get autographs. The most obvious place to find an athlete is the stadium or arena in which he plays. Waiting outside the players' exit after a game is the easiest way to get a player to sign your piece of sports memorabilia, especially if his team just won or he had an excellent game.

Many athletes love to get fan mail. Some will even sign trading cards and small pieces of memorabilia, such as 8-by-10 photographs, and return them to you if you enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Or consider buying your own packs and trading any autographs you get that you don't want for autographs of players you do want to add to your collection.

How to Get Along With a Sports Team ?

Asked by suresh in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:58 AM on March 02, 2009

Jateen Gutta's Answer

Getting along with teammates can be tough, especially given the competitive nature of sports in general. Many players get frustrated when their teammates miss shots, make defensive errors or even enjoy too much success on the field.

Dealing with these firebrands takes patience, cool nerves and a commitment to fairness, but the resulting reward of team unity is worth the effort.

Spend time with your teammates doing something simple and non-competitive. Hanging out, eating food or going to the movies are good ways of building a personal bond with them that'll strengthen your on-field relationship.

How to Prepare for a Sports Game?

Asked by suresh in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:06 AM on March 02, 2009

Jateen Gutta's Answer

Even if you've been playing sports since you were little, you need to prepare for each game. You may feel like you could play with your eyes closed, but if you're not feeling your best, your performance will certainly suffer. Follow these steps, and you can wake up on game day confident and eager for the whistle to blow.

Remain hydrated. Before the game even starts, make sure you drink plenty of water or a sports drink, and drink more at every break and when the game is over.
Carve out time for a warm-up. You shouldn't begin play without warming up first.
Stay cool. To keep your body running properly, take precautions to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Eat healthy. Maintaining proper nutrition is important for all-around health for everyone, but it's especially vital to top performance in a sports game.
Get enough rest. All of your hard work and preparation will mean nothing if you don't make time for the right amount of sleep before your sports game.

How Does a Sports Card Collector Sell Cards? ?

Asked by suresh in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:58 AM on March 02, 2009

Jateen Gutta's Answer

If you have a large quantity of common cards, it often best to sell them as a group package instead of individually. Valuable cards should be sold individually.
Unless you have a crystal ball, you never know the exact time when an athlete's card is at peak demand. The market is unpredictable, and certain events in an athlete's career can increase interest in the card. When in doubt, trust your gut feeling.

EBay, an online auction site, has categories dedicated to selling sports cards. Sell your cards individually or in sets, or put up your entire collection on the site. You will need to scan your cards in order to post a picture for your auction.
