How do you care for a lip piercing?

Asked by Neha Bist in Beauty & Fashion at   10:57 PM on January 18, 2009

Uttam's Answer

Bactine On The Outside Along With A Mild Soap, And Alchol Free Mouth Wash Works Best.

Also, if you got your piercing at a body piercing shop your piercer should have provided a reciepe for a good Saline solution (aka salt water). Soaking your lip in a warm salt water solution 3 times a day is really good for your new lip piercing and will also make it feel better!

saline solution and mouth wash and do it frequently.

i heard you only clean the front with rubbing alcohol and the inside with salt water and that should help heal it :-) and my boyfriend is a tattoo/piercing artist and were both only 14 but im crazy to pierce my own stuff!

What does lip piercing represent?

Asked by Neha Bist in Beauty & Fashion at   10:57 PM on January 18, 2009

Uttam's Answer

Lip piercings represent nothing. In a traditional sense (in which all westerners have lost) the labret showed status in a tribe and each tribe had different methods and meanings for it. As of this day in age, there are no implications by any body piercing or tattoo, it means only what the wearer wants it to mean.

What should you use to pierce your own lip?

Asked by Neha Bist in Beauty & Fashion at   10:57 PM on January 18, 2009

Uttam's Answer

It seems to me that no matter what people say children are going to do this to themselves. Be warned serious infection is probable when working on yourself. But to answer the question you need a 14g. or LARGER (larger being preferable) piercing needle. NOT a safety pin!

What are the steps to piercing your own tongue?

Asked by Neha Bist in Beauty & Fashion at   10:57 PM on January 18, 2009

Uttam's Answer

Get in your car, drive to the most reputable piercing shop in your area, pay the $55 to get it pierced, go in the back room, watch them set-up, watch them change gloves, agree on placement, watch them stick the needle through, watch them stick the jewelry in, listen carefully to all care instructions, go home and care for it properly and if any issues arise call your piercer. What I am trying to get across is you need to see a professional because they do know far more than you about piercings and will be able to assist you should anything go wrong. Doing it at home without knowing how will greatly increase your risks and could ultimately lead to an inward travelling infection that could in theory attack your brain and kill you. There have only been two documented cases of that type of infection, but it is still a risk factor, especially with home jobs.

When piercing your lip how do you avoid major veins?

Asked by Neha Bist in Beauty & Fashion at   10:49 PM on January 18, 2009

Uttam's Answer

Piercing Without Hitting Veins

First an foremost: DO NOT pierce your lip by yourself. You cannot possibly learn where and how to do it from reading about it on the internet. You should look to a professional with a clean record to do the piercing for you.

Is there a vein in your ear that can be hit if you get your cartlidge pierced?

Asked by Neha Bist in Beauty & Fashion at   10:49 PM on January 18, 2009

Cartilage is just that. It hardly contains any blood vessels. That is why there is very little blood when this area is pierced.

How can you hide a lip piercing?

Asked by Neha Bist in Beauty & Fashion at   10:57 PM on January 18, 2009

Uttam's Answer

you culd always just eat an apple all the time but the way i hide mine from school and my parents is i get a clear stud n then i cover it in foundation n people think its a pimple it seriously works lol

Updated:

I have snakebites. This means that I have two piercings on opposite ends of my lower lip.

I went to a french catholic high school, and had to cover them up in order to not get suspended. I bought clear plastic barbells, and switched them before and after school. Works out very well.

The only thing I would do, is wait until they're completely healed before changing any of the jewelry. Switching the jewelry too often when it is not 100% healed could create problems.

You can pick up one at your local tattoo/body piercing shop or any shop that carries body jewelry.

Here is what you'd want:

How do you pierce your conch or helix?

Asked by Neha Bist in Beauty & Fashion at   10:49 PM on January 18, 2009

Uttam's Answer

you use a dermal punch, which is basically a razor blade in the shape of a circle. they put it on the cartilage and hit it with a hammer and it punches a huge hole in your ear. then they take it out and put in the jewelry.
