Why does tequila have a worm?

Asked by Malvika in Food & Drink at   11:39 PM on January 26, 2009

Nidhi Singh's Answer

Worms in tequila? Well, no, since worms are not on the list of ingredients allowed in tequila by the Mexican government. Worms in mezcal, yes, sometimes. The worm is an agave worm. There is a lot of folklore surrounding the worm, with rumours that the worm is hallucinogenic, or a source of great heroism, or simply that the pickling of the worm is a proof of potency of the spirit. In any case, the eating of the worm is often made into a ritual of machismo. However, the worm isn't particularly traditional; it's a modern marketing gimmick.

What is the freezing temperature of Captain Morgan's rum?

Asked by Malvika in Food & Drink at   11:39 PM on January 26, 2009

Nidhi Singh's Answer

Captain Morgan Rum-Freeze

Pure ethanol, the active ingredient in Captain Morgan's, freezes at −114.3 °C. Because Captain Morgan's is not pure ethanol, it will freeze at a somewhat higher temperature than that, but no hard alcohol will freeze in any standard home freezer.

-Sorry, but that is incorrect. I am drinking frozen Captain Morgan's right now. We froze it in our dorm freezer. Set it to max cold and it will freeze to slushy level. Get some krunk in yo system

-Someone probably stole, then watered down your booze then. Any 80 proof hooch will NEVER freeze in any standard consumer grade freezer.
