If we have a healthy diet, do we still need to take supplements ?

Asked by Vinay in Food & Drink at   1:59 PM on October 10, 2008

Singh's Answer

well, Although there are many vitamin and mineral supplements to choose from, finding the right multivitamin can take a little bit of time and effort. To find the right one for you, you need to ask questions, read label, compare products, and choose wisely. A good multivitamin should complement good nutrition, not replace it. After finding the right formula for your gender and age, you will have a strong nutritional foundation. Even a diet that is healthy diet can be improved by taking a multivitamin. Research shows that individuals who are eating a very healthy diet can improve their nutritional status through the use of a multivitamin.

Vitamins are organic substances or chemicals that are found and food and essential for life. Even though vitamins have their own specific jobs, they work together as a team. Deficiency in one vitamin can lead to sickness. All vitamins are either fat or water-soluble. For example, vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble and can be stored for a good amount of time in our fat and in the liver. Water soluble vitamins, such as vitamins C and B, cannot be stored and must be taken more than once a day for optimum nutrition.

The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) is defined as the average daily dietary intake level that is sufficient to meet the nutrient requirement of nearly all healthy individuals in a group. This means that RDA amounts of vitamins and minerals are the standard amounts that healthy people need to consume each day in order to avoid deficiency. The RDA does not take into account teenagers, people over the age of 45, and those who are taking oral contraceptives, pregnant, nursing, dieting, engaging in extreme physical activity, drinking alcohol, taking prescription medications, eating processed food, eating prepared food, stressed at work or at home, smoking, or exposed to second hand smoke or air pollution.

Can our bodies produce vitamins on their own ?

Asked by Vinay in Food & Drink at   2:00 PM on October 10, 2008

Singh's Answer

well, Our cells eat, drink, breathe, "go to the bathroom," generate electricity, do their job, and replicate themselves, twenty four hours a day. Each and every one of them is totally dependent upon the integrity of the resources available to them to perform these functions efficiently. To the extent the quality of these resources is lacking, the quality of the cell's performance is diminished. Quality goods cannot be created from inferior resources.

In other words, junk in, junk out.

When a body's cells are formed from inferior resources, our bodies are handicapped by a diminished capacity for health that continues to diminish throughout each subsequent generation born and raised on deficient resources. Our bodies have only what we consume to supply the materials with which our cells are generated, maintained and restored. Deficient, processed, adulterated food provides a deficient quality of material considerably different from what nutrient-rich, non denatured foods produce. A cell membrane made from damaged or deficient raw materials lacks the integrity to fulfill its healthy function. The body is designed for vital health, and nature provides all the resources by which such health can be accomplished and enjoyed. Nature is our ally, and supplementation and food production which looks to nature's wisdom as its mentor, is nature's ally. Lifestar and nature are allies.

What is the proper way to take vitamins ?

Asked by Vinay in Food & Drink at   2:01 PM on October 10, 2008

Singh's Answer

well, The best way to take vitamin A is in the form of five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Collectively, fruit and vegetable antioxidants may help reduce free-radical damage to muscle fibers after workouts (which is when most exercise-related muscle damage occurs), and thereby have an anticatabolic effect. It's worth a try.

VITAMIN C AND OTHER ANTIOXIDANTS With antioxidants, it's less a matter of toxicity and more a matter of balance and staying within optimal limits in order to get the best results. Although too little intake of antioxidants can result in muscle destruction, too much isn't optimal, either, where muscle mass is concerned. According to a study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, supplemental doses of vitamin C and another antioxidant (the amino acid cysteine) actually increase free-radical damage to muscles after high-intensity resistance exercise. Of course, experienced bodybuilders seldom take megadoses of only one or two antioxidants, but the gist of the study is that antioxidant variety and staying within reasonable limits are the best ways to get the most out of antioxidants. Because too much of any one antioxidant can actually increase free radicals, the key is to take a variety daily (the better-known antioxidants include vitamins A, C and E, plus selenium, zinc, beta-carotene, bioflavonoids, a nd the aminos glutathione and cysteine) and stay below known upper-dose limits.

What are the supplements that minimize wrinkles and anti-aging ?

Asked by Vinay in Food & Drink at   2:01 PM on October 10, 2008

Singh's Answer

well, Plenty of options are available today for combating the signs of aging. From plastic surgery to Botox injections to herbal remedies, one major sign of aging—-wrinkles-—can be hidden and in many cases, completely eliminated. However, to avoid the excess cost and hassle of many anti-aging methods, people can choose instead to take preventative measures to minimize current wrinkles while choosing to maintain healthy and age resistant skin.
Figure out how much time you're willing to spend each day on your skin. Challenge yourself to commit to and stick to a daily skin regiment to minimize wrinkles.

Start with a fresh canvas. Give yourself a facial either with a home use product or at a salon or spa to slough off old skin to reduce wrinkles. Be gentle with your skin, massage is a good way to relax skin and minimize wrinkles.

Be aware of the fact that sun damages skin and it is a major cause of wrinkles. Understand that skin will easily and quickly turn leather like with daily sun exposure without sunscreen use.

Purchase a good sunscreen product and use it religiously on a daily basis, even under makeup (for women) and every time you leave home to minimize wrinkles.

Realize that smoking of any type and smog both can damage skin and can cause premature wrinkling of the skin. Substance abuse, including alcohol, will also wrinkle the skin. Avoid these toxins to help minimize wrinkles.

Eat healthy to minimize wrinkles; include tons of green leafy vegetables, fruit, whole grains and low cholesterol types of protein (like fish) in your daily diet. Antioxidants from vitamins often reverse cell damage and can help to improve the look of your skin.

Know that vitamins, such as vitamin A, biotin, inositol and riboflavin (vitamin B2) are especially important for skin health when you want to minimize wrinkles. Note that all vitamins combined are needed to work together, whether they come from food or a supplement.

Realize that minerals, like copper, are also important for maintaining skin health and to minimize wrinkles. Several minerals are needed to promote the functioning of many vitamins in the body and to stimulate cell renewal.

What are the other causes of vitamin deficiencies ?

Asked by Vinay in Food & Drink at   2:00 PM on October 10, 2008

Singh's Answer

well, The absorption of vitamins and minerals is reduced when our health is poor, and in addition, during this time our requirement for these increases. These reasons cause the widespread mineral and vitamin deficiencies in our society. The B vitamins supplied by our intestinal bacteria are also destroyed by antibiotic therapies that we use to treat other diseases.

How much vitamins should we take ?

Asked by Vinay in Food & Drink at   2:01 PM on October 10, 2008

Singh's Answer

well, It would be nice – and convenient if we got all the vitamins we needed for optimal health simply from eating. Even the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) levels prescribed for vitamins are not designed for maintaining optimal health. So, to keep our bodies and minds in tip-top shape, which vitamins should we take and how much should we have?

Nutritional supplements from capsules can be better absorbed by the body than the same nutrients from food. That makes a multi-vitamin a great addition to a healthy diet. Many multi-vitamins are pre-packaged, with the ingredients and dosage already determined. But it is important for you to determine what supplements you need and how much is a healthy amount for you. Some professionals consider the RDA to just maintain the basic requirements of vitamins needed and recommend taking beyond the daily allowance. Before doing so, consult your physician.

Some key vitamins and supplements to consider are: selenium which is part of our body`s major antioxidant enzyme called glutathione peroxidase. It is proposed that the higher the blood or tissue level of selenium, the less likely you are to develop abnormal cell growth.

Vitamin A promotes white blood cell production and regulates cell growth to enhance immunity. Vitamin A is found in beta-carotene from fruits and vegetables, and retinal in animal products like milk. Preformed A can be toxic at levels above 10,000 IU (Individual Units). Stick to 2,300 IU per day.

Vitamin C helps your body make collagen which builds healthy bones, teeth, gums and blood vessels. It can also shorten the life of a cold. Take 250 – 500 mg per day.

Vitamin B12 helps keep nerve cells and red blood cells healthy. If you are over 50, be sure to include B12 supplements in your diet because you may have trouble absorbing this vitamin from the foods you eat. There have been no adverse affects reported for taking high doses of B12. Start at 24 micrograms per day.

Vitamin B6 makes normal nerve cell communication possible, however doses over 100 mg per day are associated with nerve damage.

What is Message Exchange Pattern (MEP)? Discuss its relationships to other elements.

Asked by Anshul in Computers & Technology at   4:01 PM on October 11, 2008

Singh's Answer

well, Words "Message Exchange Pattern" or "MEP" are used in abundance in distributed computing field and mostly in Web services. Let's understand MEPs, generalized to Web services, here.

MEP is a pattern of message exchanged between SOAP nodes. Rather than talking in general terms, let's understand this using a concrete example. Take the following scenario. What will happen when you invoke a Web service which provides stock quotes? You first send out a SOAP message to the Web services server, which hosts the stock quote service. Then the server sends out the response, which contains the stock quote to you.

Let's look at this message exchange from the Web services server point-of-view. There is a message coming IN and a response message going OUT. This is a template for any request-response message and is named as IN-OUT message exchange pattern.

Let's take another example. A client sends a Web services server a SOAP message to switch-off logging. In this example, server receives IN message and it concludes the message exchange. This pattern is termed as IN-Only MEP. Sometimes, the server might want to inform the client using a SOAP fault message, in case of an error. This is termed as Robust In-Only MEP.

One important thing to note here is that all the MEPs are named as if we are thinking from the server or the ultimate receiver's point-of-view.

What do you mean by a pirated dvd?

Asked by Amit in Computers & Technology at   10:11 AM on October 10, 2008

Singh's Answer

well, Piracy of DVDs is attributed as a stern and growing dilemma throughout the world. It is a pocess of copying softwares illegally. Piracy of DVDs started when companies released softwares of commercial value for sale. Software pirates infringe the copyright of companies and copy the the programs without seeking the permission from the owner. They traffic the Pirated DVDs to the public for making money. The same is being exchanged by the users for pupose of reciving new software for their computer and entertainment. Copies of animation films, music and games are very commonly made and circulated among friends. For a layman a pirated DVD makes no difference until he is educated about the misuse of fake DVDs.

When a software is not yet sold officially in the maket but its DVD is available, for example a movie which has not been released in the cinema theatre but can be watched on a DVD, in such case the DVD is said to contain a pirated copy of that movie.

Piracy affects the hard work put into by the owner and the people working for him. They receive no reward and also loose money due for their creativity.

Intellectual Property (IP) rights allow people to shield their creativity and make money using their creative ideas through license, agreements and royalties. As the owner you can protect your identity and use your control of your IP. Royalty generally refers to the reward in terms of money paid to the creators for their striking ideas and higher level of intelligence. A unique federation called The Alliance against IP Theft prevents the interest of IP.

What is the latest achievements in technology?

Asked by Panbhu Sel in Computers & Technology at   4:17 PM on October 11, 2008

Singh's Answer

well, The coke making industry has seen substantial technological development over the last decade. Conventional coke ovens (slot type ovens) with raw gas recovery have reached dimensions of more than 8 m height and 90 m 3 useful oven volume, boosting the capacity of a single battery to 1.3 Mt/y and the production of a single coke plant with one operating team to 2.6 Mt/y. At the same time, the emissions from batteries and gas treatment facilities have been reduced to the lowest amounts ever. A further increase in energy efficiency and environmental protection for conventional coke batteries is expected from the combustion of the hot raw gas with subsequent generation of electricity. The concept of a coke plant with direct combustion of the raw gas would omit the entire gas treatment plant and produce only coke and power. Aside from these achievements with conventional coke oven batteries, the non-recovery technology has also found acceptance. Coke plants of this type are in operation in the USA, Australia and India. One plant in the USA is a heat-recovery coke plant that produces power from the waste gas. Further improvements in plant efficiency and coke quality are achieved with stamping of the coal charge, which is now developed for non-recovery ovens, too.
