If you are new ,the producer will start with a ridiculously low fees, until you come up with a smashing hit. please know that there are no standard rates for any job in Film industry. If you are successful screen play writer, You can dictate any price you like. Producers will fall in line to book you.Salim -Javed could hike their fees only after a series of Hits.

how the producers select the screenwriters for their films?

Mostly known ones are either approached with a project or they have a project with which they approach a Producer / Director. The screenwriters who've had a recent hit are in big demand and the one with a flop finds it tougher to dictate terms. A newcomer can try to get in by having a few good scripts ready, registering them, and then trying to market them.

What you have written might not even be a script. Check out some online scripts and see if you've got the fundas right. After that, you'd have to register it and then try to get a Producer / Director or Actor interested in it.
