What is a Overhead Projector ?

Asked by ASHLEY in Electronics & Gadgets at   3:16 PM on March 02, 2008

Kannan's Answer

An overhead projector is a display system that is used to display images to an audience especially during seminars and presentations.

An overhead projector typically consists of a large box containing a very bright lamp and a fan to cool it off, on top of which is a large fresnel lens that collimates the light. Above the box, typically on a long arm, is a mirror and lens that focusses and redirects the light forward instead of up.

Transparencies are placed on top of the lens for display. The light from the lamp travels through the transparency and into the mirror where it is shone forward onto a screen for display. The mirror allows both the presenter and the audience to see the image at the same time, the presenter looking down at the transparency as if writing, the audience looking forward at the screen. The height of the mirror can be adjusted, to both focus the image and to make the image larger or smaller depending on how close the projector is to the screen.

What is a Movie Projector ?

Asked by ASHLEY in Electronics & Gadgets at   3:14 PM on March 02, 2008

Kannan's Answer

A movie projector is an opto-mechanical device for displaying moving pictures by projecting them on a projection screen.

A movie projector is a device that continuously moves film along a path so that each frame of the film is stopped for a fraction of a second in front of a light source. The light source provides extremely bright illumination that casts the image on the film through a lens onto a screen.

There are four major groups of parts that make up a projector:

* Spool assembly (cambers, sprockets, claw, motor, platter)
* Lamp assembly (bulb, condenser, fan, mirror)
* Lens assembly (lens, aperture gate, shutter)
* Audio assembly (optical and digital readers, infrared LED).

What is a Ceiling Projector ?

Asked by ASHLEY in Electronics & Gadgets at   3:17 PM on March 02, 2008

Kannan's Answer

The ceiling projector or cloud searchlight is used to measure the height of the base of clouds above the ground.

The projector is normally set at 90°, although 71° 31' may be used, in relation to the terrain. The projector consists of a 430 W incandescent bulb set in a weatherproof housing. Inside the housing are two mirrors; the first, above the bulb, reflects the light downwards to the second mirror, that then reflects the light upwards to the cloud. Both mirrors are focused to produce a high intensity beam of light that renders a visible spot on the base of the cloud.

When the cloud is thin the beam of light may penetrate into the cloud. The observer should read the scale where the light first enters the cloud and not at the top. In the case of fog or blizzard conditions the observer should read the scale where the beam disappears.

What is meant by Opaque?

Asked by ASHLEY in Electronics & Gadgets at   3:21 PM on March 02, 2008

Kannan's Answer

It is a characteristic of any object which makes it difficult to see through it.

In Optics
Opacity is the measure of impenetrability to electromagnetic or other kinds of radiation, especially visible light. In radiative transfer, it describes the absorption and scattering of radiation in a medium, such as a plasma, dielectric, shielding material, glass, etc. An opaque object is neither transparent (allowing all light to pass through) nor translucent (allowing some light to pass through).
