wHAT IS PULLDOWN?

Asked by disha in TV & Radio at   4:00 PM on April 23, 2008

geetika's Answer

Pulldown is the process of matching the frame rate of film (24 frames per second) to the frame rate of video (30 frames per second). In 3:2 pulldown, one frame of film is converted to three fields (1-1/2 frames) of video, and the next frame of film is converted to two fields (1 frame) of video. THis process is repeated (yielding 3 fields of video, 2 fields, 3 fields, 2 fields...) until the film is fully converted to a video of approximately the same length (duration). Most scan doublers, quadruplers, and scalers use the premise that two fields of video equal one frame, but video created via 3:2 pulldown does not follow that pattern.

What is Pixellation?

Asked by disha in TV & Radio at   3:58 PM on April 23, 2008

geetika's Answer

Pixelation is a term sometimes used to describe the act of turning a printed image into a digitized image file (such as the GIF file that is used to display an image on a Web page). As the image is captured, it is processed into a vectorized or rasterized file that can be used to illuminate color units called pixels on a display surface and Pixelation is the display of a digitized image where the individual pixels are apparent to a viewer. This can happen unintentionally when a low-resolution image designed for an ordinary computer display is projected on a large screen and each pixel becomes separately viewable.

What is PMPO?

Asked by disha in TV & Radio at   3:59 PM on April 23, 2008

geetika's Answer

PMPO : peak momentary power output. This term refers to the maximum power output achieved for a speaker system under perfect conditions. PMPO is a controversy term, as many feel it is used as a marketing ploy, since the perfect conditions on which PMPO are based are next to impossible to achieve in a home where the speaker system is set up. The PMPO of a speaker is actually based on the maximum power output in a very small period of time (microseconds). Since no musical note lasts for such a short amount of time this peak performance cannot be reproduced in real usage of the speaker. The PMPO value is often seen listed as "watts PMPO" on product packaging. PMPO is also called peak music power output.
