is the dicision of selection team to not to involve in ODI team in AUS ?

Asked by hitesh in Cricket & Other Sports at   11:48 AM on January 24, 2008

Deepak's Answer

Your question is a bit complicated. What you probably mean is that the selection committee should have involved the team or at least the playing captain in selection of the ODI team.
Definitely. And the timing of the board is atrocious as usual. Bang in the middle of a series. They could have waited for a few days or could have flown the ODI probables or certainties as extras, so that they could have adjusted to the conditions in Australia.
The test team probably has adjusted a bit now but how about the one day team? They shall fly there and find alien conditions, hostile crowds, aggressive competitors! When shall they adjust? By the time they adjust, the series shall be coming to a close!

now india is good position..in 3rd test...can india wins this match ????

Asked by harsha in Cricket & Other Sports at   4:38 PM on January 17, 2008

Deepak's Answer

As per current form and norms, Australians are firm favourites! But Indians might just muster enough muscle, pride and 'backbone' to stand up to Australian bullies! Still whether they manage to beat the Aussies or manage to draw the tests, is yet to be seen.
As an Indian, I would definitely like India to win, but it appears very unlikely!
This is my answer to the same question earlier, but today's performance has turned everything around. The Indian team might just surprise all of us! And I shall be the happiest and proudest if that happens!

Symonds had again brought up the controversy when dust was supposed to be settling down. What do you think???

Asked by ashok in Cricket & Other Sports at   10:42 PM on January 13, 2008

Deepak's Answer

Nothing new. Australians are famous for this and this alone!Harbhajan was probably teasing Symonds when he called him a big monkey. He would have called Hayden the same and would probably call Ponting a 'small monkey'.
Had Harbhajan commented on Symonds with the intention of causing him mental grief on the basis of his race, then he would have been guilty in my book.
Brad Hogg calling Anil Kumble a 'bastard' is of course insulting, humuliating and shocking and undescribable!

Why is the number 111 called "the Nelson"?

Asked by Gopal Rao Y in Cricket & Other Sports at   5:45 PM on January 17, 2008

Deepak's Answer

The number 111 is sometimes called a "Nelson" ( especially in cricket ) after Admiral Nelson, who allegedly only had "One Eye, One Arm, One Ball" near the end of his life. (This is sometimes bowdlerized to say that he lost "One Eye, One Arm, One Life" during his naval career.) Another suggestion is that the number is derived from his three great victories, thus Copenhagen, Nile & Trafalgar which gives the sequence "Won - Won - Won".

A score of 111 or multiples thereof (called "double nelson", "triple nelson" etc.) is considered an ill omen in cricket, because the figures "111" resemble a wicket without bails. Some people, most notably David Shepherd, develop superstitions around nelsons.
