‘Sorry Bhai’ is a complicated love story about a woman who falls in love with the younger brother of a man she is set to marry.
The movie, directed by Onir , stars Sanjay Suri, Sharman Joshi and Chitrangada Singh in main roles. In the supporting roles are Shabana Azmi and Boman Irani.
Sharman Joshi as Sid, Siddharth
Siddharth Mathur is a young scientist who is trying to make a Toy Dog fly. A character who is loved by all because of his idiosyncrasies, Siddharth is a boring and studious guy. But he also has an interesting artistic streak: he’s a big jazz freak and saxophone player. He is open to
the idea of an arranged marriage.
Chitrangada Singh as Aaliyah
The bride-to-be is a product of divorced parents and she has grown up in Mauritius, in a boarding school. Though her parents support her financially and speak to her occasionally, she can’t say that they are really in touch with her on a regular basis. Aaliyah has many layers to her character. A woman who apparently looks emotional and vulnerable actually comes out being the one who makes the toughest choice.
Sanjay Suri as Harsh, the elder brother
Harsh Mathur has always been the simpler, uncomplicated brother. Ambitious and determined to become a success, he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. He is a kind of man who gives his work priority over his relationships. He’s someone who likes to push things under the carpet, and often runs away from reality.
Shabana Azmi as Gayatri, the mom
Gayatri Mathur has spent her life looking after home and family. She has become fairly comfortable in her equation with her husband. Her husband avoids confrontations and she enjoys his leg-pulling. Gayatri is bossy, speaks her mind, can be tactless but loves her family.
Boman Irani as Navin, the father
Navin Mathur was a teacher who loved his job, and managed to stay clear of becoming excessively cynical. He liked people and was popular wherever he went. Of late, he started dabbling in the share-market, with mixed results. But he is a cautious man, so the ups and downs of the market are not going to destroy him.
Synopsis
Siddharth Mathur (Sharman Joshi), a shy young scientist, travels to Mauritius for his elder brother Harsh's (Sanjay Suri) wedding. Accompanying him is his Ma (Shabana Azmi), a reluctant traveller since she is angry at Harsh for deciding to get married without consulting them. Also travelling is Siddharth's cheery father (Boman Irani), whose sole entertainment is pulling Ma's leg.
Harsh, pre-occupied with work, can spend little time with his family and it is left to his fiancée Aaliyah (Chitrangada) to show them around Mauritius before the wedding. However, Ma's anger at Harsh ensures that she takes an instant dislike for Aaliyah, and it is Aaliyah and Siddharth who end up spending loads of time together. This, added to the fact that Aaliyah feels neglected by the career-obsessed Harsh, leads to them being irresistibly drawn to each other.
A horrified Siddharth battles this attraction desperately, but Aaliyah has fallen madly in love and pursues him with single-minded determination. When Siddharth's defences start crumbling and Ma starts getting suspicious, all hell breaks loose in the Mathur family.
The movie is a fun romantic comedy with lots of moments that will make you cry and smile at the same time.
‘Sorry Bhai’ is set to release on November 28.
