what is RDBMS?

Asked by blogger01 in Computers & Technology at   7:23 AM on May 23, 2008

Arti singh's Answer

A Relational database management system (RDBMS) is a database management system (DBMS) that is based on the relational model as introduced by E. F. Codd. Most popular commercial and open source databases currently in use are based on the relational model.

A short definition of an RDBMS may be a DBMS in which data is stored in the form of tables and the relationship among the data is also stored in the form of tables.

define the cod's rule?

Asked by blogger01 in Computers & Technology at   7:23 AM on May 23, 2008

Arti singh's Answer

Cod's Define following Rules for RDBMS.

Rule 0: The system must qualify as relational, as a database, and as a management system.

For a system to qualify as a relational database management system (RDBMS), that system must use its relational facilities (exclusively) to manage the database.

Rule 1: The information rule:

All information in the database is to be represented in one and only one way, namely by values in column positions within rows of tables.

Rule 2: The guaranteed access rule:

All data must be accessible with no ambiguity. This rule is essentially a restatement of the fundamental requirement for primary keys. It says that every individual scalar value in the database must be logically addressable by specifying the name of the containing table, the name of the containing column and the primary key value of the containing row.

Rule 3: Systematic treatment of null values:

The DBMS must allow each field to remain null (or empty). Specifically, it must support a representation of "missing information and inapplicable information" that is systematic, distinct from all regular values (for example, "distinct from zero or any other number," in the case of numeric values), and independent of data type. It is also implied that such representations must be manipulated by the DBMS in a systematic way. Rule 5: The comprehensive data sublanguage rule:
The system must support at least one relational language that
(a) Has a linear syntax
(b) Can be used both interactively and within application programs,
(c) Supports data definition operations (including view definitions), data manipulation operations (update as well as retrieval), security and integrity constraints, and transaction management operations (begin, commit, and rollback).

Rule 6: The view updating rule:
All views that are theoretically updatable must be updatable by the system.

Rule 7: High-level insert, update, and delete:
The system must support set-at-a-time insert, update, and delete operators. This means that data can be retrieved from a relational database in sets constructed of data from multiple rows and/or multiple tables. This rule states that insert, update, and delete operations should be supported for any retrievable set rather than just for a single row in a single table.

Rule 8: Physical data independence:
Changes to the physical level (how the data is stored, whether in arrays or linked lists etc.) must not require a change to an application based on the structure.

Rule 9: Logical data independence:
Changes to the logical level (tables, columns, rows, and so on) must not require a change to an application based on the structure. Logical data independence is more difficult to achieve than physical data independence.

Rule 10: Integrity independence:
Integrity constraints must be specified separately from application programs and stored in the catalog. It must be possible to change such constraints as and when appropriate without unnecessarily affecting existing applications.

Rule 11: Distribution independence:
The distribution of portions of the database to various locations should be invisible to users of the database. Existing applications should continue to operate successfully :
(a) when a distributed version of the DBMS is first introduced; and
(b) when existing distributed data are redistributed around the system.

Rule 12: The nonsubversion rule:
If the system provides a low-level (record-at-a-time)

Define sequence in sql?

Asked by blogger01 in Computers & Technology at   7:24 AM on May 23, 2008

Arti singh's Answer

Sequence is a class for objects representing an Oracle sequence. The methods of an instanciated object do allow to access the information within a database's data dictionary and to represent them as SQL create statements and the like using the proper SQL dialect.

$sequence = SQL::Schema::Sequence->new(%at tr);

The new method instanciates a sequence object. The object is an in memory representation of a (possible) oracle sequence. The attributes are given as key value pairs by the hash %attr.

hou can i change the name of explorer on start?

Asked by anup anand in Computers & Technology at   8:54 AM on May 23, 2008

Arti singh's Answer

follow these Steps for changing the name of explore on start-

1) The default command for Windows Explorer icon in the Accessories Program group is:

%SystemRoot%\explorer.e xe

If you wanted to open the folder mp3files on the C:\ drive. You would enter the command:

%SystemRoot%\explo rer.e xe c:\mp3files

2)P On XP, regardless of how Windows Explorer views have been set, this will open the folder in a single window view, while Vista retains the view settings, which may display a left and right window panes. If you wanted the folder to open with two Window panes on XP, enter the following command:

%SystemRoot%\explo rer.e xe/e,c:\mp3files

If you wanted to open the mp3files folder, but have the focus on a sub-folder under it, you can enter the following command:

%SystemRoot%\explo rer.e xe/e,/root,/select,c:\mp3files \soft ware

Where /root opens the root folder (in this case the :\mp3files) and /select,c:\mp3files\software tells Windows Explorer to open the software directory.

Where do I go to view my hardware settings?

Asked by blogger01 in Computers & Technology at   7:31 AM on May 23, 2008

Arti singh's Answer

hi blogger Click Hardware in the tree view to display read-only information about the hardware.

When using a simulated signal generator connection, <Simulated Hardware> appears in the Name cell and <Simulated ESG/PSG/MXG Signal Generator> appears in the Connection cell. N/A appears in most of the other cells.

Click the Run Self-Tests button to run a test of the I/O interface connection between the signal generator and the PC. Run Self-Tests performs the same tests as the Test I/O Connections button.

The Self-Tests window appears and displays the results of the tests. Closing the test dialog window also closes the hardware node and opens the waveform setup node.

If an error occurs, a red X appears next to the failed test and an error message is displayed in the status area.

Click the Test I/O Connections button to run a test of the I/O interface connection between the signal generator and the PC. Test I/O Connections performs the same tests as the Run Self-Tests button.

Define trigger in oracle?

Asked by blogger01 in Computers & Technology at   7:24 AM on May 23, 2008

Arti singh's Answer

Constraints are declaractions of conditions about the database that must remain true. These include attributed-based, tuple-based, key, and referential integrity constraints. The system checks for the violation of the constraints on actions that may cause a violation, and aborts the action accordingly. Information on SQL constraints can be found in the textbook. The Oracle implementation of constraints differs from the SQL standard, as documented in Oracle 9i SQL versus Standard SQL.

Triggers are a special PL/SQL construct similar to procedures. However, a procedure is executed explicitly from another block via a procedure call, while a trigger is executed implicitly whenever the triggering event happens. The triggering event is either a INSERT, DELETE, or UPDATE command. The timing can be either BEFORE or AFTER. The trigger can be either row-level or statement-level, where the former fires once for each row affected by the triggering statement and the latter fires once for the whole statement.

how can i know my download and upload information as i m the user of bsnl broadband ? please refer me the site.

Asked by anshul in Computers & Technology at   9:05 AM on May 23, 2008

Arti singh's Answer

Currently BSNL issues 2 types of Dataone accounts and usage checking site is different for each type. Your account type can be found out by checking your IP address. Check your unique IP address at:

www.shaplus.com/ip/

One type of account has IP address of type 5x.xx.xx.xx and other type has IP address of type 117.xx.xx.xx . Usage checking site for first type (5x.xx.xx.xx) is

sancharnet.in/dataoneredirect .h tm

and for the second type (117.xx.xx.xx) is

bbservice.bsnl.in

Newer users are mostly given second type and for logging into http://bbservice.bsnl.in you need to get a portal id.

Alternatively you can use 3rd party tools such as 'Dataone bandwidth usage finder' to find the D/L-U/L info. Get it from:

www.softpedia.com/get/Netw ork-Tools/Bandwidth-Tools/DataOne-t ool.shtml

Apart from this, there is a FireFox browser's add-on (DataFox) available to monitor the Dataone bandwidth at:

thegoan.com/datafox/

Data Fox is a cross platform extension written for Firefox; if you use Internet Explorer or any other browser, DataFox will not work for you.
