How is Flu diagnosed?

flu is diagnosed mainly on the clinical grounds.. the examination for the virus is done during the outbreaks to confirm the diagnosis and know the strain of the virus... the strain of the virus determines wether the vaccine in use is effective or not...

the treatment mainly symptomatic... it contains the use of anti-pyretics to control the fever... and oxygen in case of cyanosis.. if the patient has secondary bacterial infection then antibiotica are given...

we the doctor's are bound by the law and work ethics and can't disclose the details.. and all of us follow it.. and i am sure that the information will not be disclosed... in cases of HIV test we don't even note down the patient's name instead we use a number for identifying them... so don't worry about the information being disclosed...

it would depend on the health care provider.. the main bulk of the cost is the doctor's fee.. and an 100-150 rupees above doctor's fee for the lab exams..

Do I need to have a GYN exam if I want to get a birth control method?

yes it is a necessity... because there are certain cases where certain contraceptives should not be used... these have to be ruled out before u use the contraceptive... for example: in patients with high BP or diabetes the mala N and other combined pills should not be used... but if u r planning to use a contraceptive like condom no need of any examination.. examination is needed specially for pills and the IUD's...

there is no compulsion... but it is better to get it done... the commonly requested STI tests are:
- VDRL for syphillis which can cause complication during the preganancy
- ELISA test for HIV infection, if diagnosed early it can be prevented from spreading to the baby during pregnancy... so it is advisable to get both the tests done..

it depends... in a otherwise normal women who is sexually active, the test needs to be repeated every 3 years.... and one needs to have a GYN exam on complaints like:
white foul smelling discharge
difficulty in passing urine
excessive bleeding
pain just before or during menses
chronic lower abdominal pain etc...

the first GYN exam is preferably done before entering the sexual life.. but this examination may have to abandoned in may due to the intact hymen... in others a complete examination is done and a PAP smear is obtained...
