What are the symptoms of hay fever?

after the exposure to the allergic agent, the individual develops the following symptoms:
redness and itching of eyes
running nose and itching sensation in nose and sneezing
fever... these are the predominant symptoms and last less than 24 hours after the allergen is avoided....

hay fever or allergic rhinitis is an allergic condition.. the allergy can be to air-borne dust or pollen or dust, etc... once exposed to the allergic agent the symptoms start immediately and last for less than 24 hours.. the predominant symptom is running nose, itching sensation in nose... treated using the anti-histamine like levo-citrezine, hydoxyzine, etc...

the common types of the headaches are:
1. migraine
2. tension type headache
3. cluster headache
4. headache due to head trauma
5. vascular disorders like bleeding
6. non-vascular intra-cranial disorder like tumors
7. headache associated with substance abuse and their withdrawal like alcohol
8. noncephalic infection like simple viral fever
9. metabolic disorders like low blood glucose
10. headache due to disease of structures like eye, ear, nose, sinuses, teeth, etc...

i don't think u would have understood everything that i have written above.. i just wanted to make a point that there is no single common type of headache.. i have seen patients who common after taking pain killers for over 3-4 years for headache.. so self medication is not advised for headache lasting more than a week.. all the above types are common but occur in varying proportions in different age and population groups...

the body's immune system or defence system reacts to any foreign body.. this is essential for a healthy body... but sometimes the response is exaggerated and causes symptoms like edema (swelling) as in hives, fever as in hay fever, breathing difficulties as in asthma, etc... this exaggerated response is said to be due to an abnormality which is genetical in nature... this is what is known as allergy... it can happen as soon as exposure to the allergen or after days of exposure to the allergen...

yes the STDs can spread thorough the anal sex.. so does HIV.. during anal sex, there will be minor injuries exposing the blood vessels, this favors spread of HIV and other STDs.. infact we have a special type of STD causing proctitis in the gay's.. so even for the anal sex all necessary precautions are necessary...

the allergy occurring immediately after the exposure to the allergen lasts less than 24 hours after the individual is taken out of contact of allergen.. if the individual continues to have exposure then he develops chronic disease and the condition will worsen.. so as soon as allergy occurs it is advisable to remove the allergic agent first...

hives or urticaria is an allergic reaction.. the allergic reaction causes release of the chemicals, which lead to dilatation of the blood vessels.. this leads to edema (sweeling), redness, itching sensation... this lasts for about 24 hours.. this is mainly treated with the anti-histamines like citrezine, hydoxyzine, etc and steroids like hydrocortisone.. the hives can be prevented by avoiding exposure to the allergic agent...

the headache is a very crude term and is used to include any pain in the head and neck region.. the pain is usually of dull aching type... the headache can be originating by either stimulation of the pain receptors or can also be due to the inappropriate activity of the pain areas in the brain or both mechanisms can operate..

the simple headaches which are called tension headaches and are due to spasm or strain of the muscles and are treated with the NSAID like aspirin or paracetomol.. there are other causes for headache like the refractive errors which are corrected using the spectacles... the headaches due to the sinus infection are treated by decongestants, antibiotics and surgery... there are many other such causes for headache and the treatment depends on the cause.. but in case of intractable headache (where the exact cause is not known) the aspirin and paracetomol and related drugs form the main stay of treatment...

the common causes of headaches are:
1. tension headache: spasm of muscles as due to inappropriate posture or faulty way of sleeping
2. it can be due to refractive errors... here again the pain is secondary to the muscle spasm..
3. sinusitis this is due to the infection and poor aeration of the sinuses.. the pain will have a characteristic periodicity
4. it can be due to the distension of the blood vessels within the cranial cavity..
5. bleeding into the cranial cavity
6. injury
7. it can also be due to reduced blood glucose level, reduced oxygen supply to the brain, etc.
8. psychogenic...
there are too many causes for headache, the causes itself would take well over 100 pages..
