It's a shortish (usually about 1 paragraph) summary or description of something, often but not always with a review/opinion component. It does not have to be praise at all, it can express a negative opinion.
I might not use it in a professional context that was meant to be shown to customers or published or whatever, but I think it is a good word to use if you are trying to make clear to a co-worker the kind of thing you want them to write.
