Public Limited companies collect funds from public to run their company. They issue certificates for public share money which are refered as Shares. Shares unit face value may range between Rs 1 to Rs 10 and actual market value could be less or more for each share unit. e.g.

You can invest in debt based mutual funds, Fixed Deposits, Govt Bonds. Look for stable consistent average growth rate schemes. Avoid investment in shares or equity based mutual funds.
