How I Make Homemade Scrubs for whole body.?

Asked by Coool Dude in Beauty & Fashion at   9:29 PM on December 03, 2008

Ajay Chawla's Answer

Dear shampa ji,
Homemade body scrubs have three basic components in their content - exfoliators, carrier oils, and essential oils. An exfoliate can consist of sea salt, ground almonds or wheat bran. Grape-seed, hazelnut, or almond oil is generally used as carrier oil. While carrier oil gives elasticity and a soft shine to the skin, the essential oils stimulate and refresh adding fragrance and healing to the whole process. In the following lines, we provide you with recipes for homemade body scrubs.
Homemade Body Scrubs
Sea Salt Body Scrub
Ingredients:
1 cup Fine Sea Salt
1/2 cup Grape-Seed, Hazelnut, Or Almond Oil
10 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil
10 drops Juniper Essential Oil
Directions:
Mix the ingredients in a bowl and stir thoroughly so that everything is well blended.
Once properly blended, damp your skin. Apply the mixture and massage it well. Deal first with the tough, rough, thickened areas of the body, such as the feet and elbows.
Wash your skin and feel the tenderness.
Use this scrub once a week.
Almond and Bran Scrub
Ingredients
1/2 cup Very Finely Ground Almonds
1/2 cup Coarse Wheat Bran
1 cup Hot Green Tea
10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
Directions
Combine the almonds, bran and tea and blend it to form a smooth paste.
Add the lavender essential oil, thoroughly blending the mixture.
Spread this mixture on your body and massage well.
Wash your body for a smooth feel.
You can use this scrub once a week.

Are body image and body type related?

Asked by Koena Mitra in Beauty & Fashion at   9:42 PM on December 03, 2008

Ajay Chawla's Answer

Dear Koena,
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Your perception of how your body looks forms your body image. Interestingly, a perfectly-toned 20 year old fitness model could have a very poor body image, while an average-shaped 50 year old man or woman could have a great body image. Regardless of how closely your actual figure resembles your perception, your body image can affect your self-esteem, your eating and exercise behaviors, and your relationships with others.
What factors influence your body image. Whether or not it’s possible to achieve the “ideal body.”
Is the “ideal body” really your key to health, success, beauty, & happiness? What can you do to improve your body image.

Does the use of saunas burn calories?

Asked by Koena Mitra in Beauty & Fashion at   9:42 PM on December 03, 2008

Ajay Chawla's Answer

Dear Koena,
There seems to be a lot of controversy going around lately about whether or not a sauna will help you to burn calories and lose weight. Some people think that the whole thing is just a myth, and some people swear by it. A lot of the sauna manufacturing companies will tell you that saunas definitely help you lose weight and calories, but this information is not as believable coming from someone who wants to sell you their sauna! Some of these companies' websites even have so called "doctors" who will answer any questions you may have about their saunas, but these people are employed by the company, and are still just trying to sell you their sauna. Sitting inside of a hot sauna for any period of time will make you sweat. Sweating releases fluid from your body. The longer you sweat, the more fluid you will lose, and this fluid loss is really the only weight loss that you see from sauna use. Once you are done with the sauna for the day, it is highly recommended that you drink lots of water after you've cooled off. This basically puts the lost fluid right back inside of your body. Many sauna companies boldly state that just twenty or thirty minutes inside of their sauna will burn anywhere from three hundred to one thousand calories. This is simply not possible. People are always looking for an easier way to burn calories than exercise, but exercise is the only efficient way to really get rid of calories. Sitting in a sauna for thirty minutes may burn up to three hundred calories, but this type of calorie burn will not have the same effect on your body as the calories burned during exercise. Calories burnt off while sitting in a sauna are just calories burnt. There is no muscle building, no fat shedding, no after burn (VERY important!) and no muscle strengthening or toning. When you choose to burn calories through exercise, you not only burn more calories, but you also build and tone your muscle, and you get rid of the excess fat on your body. If you choose the right kinds of aerobics exercises, you will also get the added benefit of after burn. After burn is what the body does after you have finished exercising. After burn can burn calories up to fourteen hours after you have stopped exercising. If the only reason you are using a sauna is to lose weight, there are much better things you can be doing to achieve your goal. Saunas are great for all kinds of other things though, and they can even help you to feel better about yourself. They will improve your skin, your health and your body. If they are used properly and safely, saunas will do a lot for you. I suggest using one at least two or three times a week, and I also recommend a good, weekly exercise routine for those who want to lose weight.

Muscles are are classified both functionally as either voluntary or involuntary and structurally as either striated or smooth. From this, there emerges three types of muscles: smooth involuntary (smooth) muscle, striated voluntary (skeletal) muscle and striated involuntary (cardiac) muscle. The names in the brackets are the common names given to the particular classification of muscle.

What is the purpose of dreaming?

Asked by Koena Mitra in Beauty & Fashion at   9:56 PM on December 03, 2008

Ajay Chawla's Answer

Dear Koena,
As modern-day humans, we are not faced with the same limitations as our ancestors. Our survival and chances of reproduction have little to do with our threat avoidance capabilities. So, if we assume that dreams initially served as a feature of evolution, what function, if any, does dreaming serve in humans presently? On the one hand, we could revert back to the original theory, with a twist. We can suggest that dreaming serves no real function at present. For example, people having suffered through traumatic ordeals often complain of nightmares. Dreamless nights would in fact be helpful in these situations, as far as mental health is concerned. So while dreams are sometimes a welcome escape from reality, other times reality is a welcome escape from our dreams. On the other hand, dreams perhaps serve a more fundamental purpose nowadays. In recalling our dreams, we are able to learn about ourselves using a broader spectrum of information. Above all, it is important to keep in mind, that we are all different. We therefore experience the world differently, react differently, and dream differently.

How do you define good nutrition?

Asked by Koena Mitra in Beauty & Fashion at   9:42 PM on December 03, 2008

Ajay Chawla's Answer

Dear Koena,
Diet has always played a vital role in supporting health. Today, over consumption of foods especially those high in fat is a major concern for people in the world. When we look at the ten leading causes of illness and death in the United States, the top categories are heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. Diet influences the development of the chronic diseases. Taken together, these four diseases account for about two-thirds of the nation's 2 million deaths each year. These causes are stated as if single conditions such as heart disease caused death, but most chronic diseases arise from multiple factors over many years. A person who died from heart failure may have had preexisting conditions, such as obesity and high blood pressure, may have been a cigarette smoker, may have spent years eating a high-fat diet and getting too little exercise. Today, there is a growing awareness that the food you eat affects your health and your whole life. However, according to a new survey, Americans today recognize that they do not need to sacrifice taste to eat right. Rather, they can enjoy their favorite foods in a way that combines the basic tenets of a healthy diet: balance, variety and moderation. People can continue to eat their favorite foods, even if they are high in fat, salt or sugars, but remember to moderate their portion size and frequency. In comparing the findings with a similar survey conducted in 1990, people continue to be very concerned about good nutrition and want sound information on healthy eating. Their interest in diet and health continues at a fairly high level. Despite consumers' positive attitude toward good nutrition, some misconceptions continue to prevail. As in the 1990 survey, two-thirds of the people believe there are "good" and "bad" diets. Any food can fit into a healthy way of eating. The key is to balance your food choices over time so that your overall diet is sound.

What do you do after you pop a pimple?

Asked by Koena Mitra in Beauty & Fashion at   9:56 PM on December 03, 2008

Ajay Chawla's Answer

Dear Koena,
Common advice is to let your body heal a pimple on its own without popping. But in the real world, some people absolutely refuse to go around with a bulging white zit for the world to see. Plus, when done properly, popping a pimple can actually be beneficial to the healing process. Reserve this technique for only pimples that are absolutely begging to be popped—all the way at the surface and white. After a shower is best, when the skin is supple.

Why Is Physical Education Important?

Asked by Koena Mitra in Beauty & Fashion at   10:52 PM on December 03, 2008

Ajay Chawla's Answer

Dear Koena,
In the past, the focus of P.E. classes was to train children to participate in competitive sports. More recently, the focus has shifted to developing healthy habits and general fitness. The hope is that children will adopt regular physical activity as a part of their lifestyle. There are four main goals of modern physical education: to improve physical fitness, to shape positive attitudes towards physical activity, to give children the skills they need to enjoy different physical activities, and to help them understand the importance of regular exercise and the connection between physical health and general well-being.

How do you get an hourglass figure?

Asked by Koena Mitra in Beauty & Fashion at   10:52 PM on December 03, 2008

Ajay Chawla's Answer

Dear Koena,
The first fashions worn with hourglass corsets, around 1830, emphasized width - they tended to have very wide skirts, large sleeves and sloping shoulders. These elements contrasted with the narrowed waist, making it appear smaller than it actually was. The hourglass corset can achieve the greatest immediate waist reduction as it acts mainly on a short zone around the waist, rather than attempting to slim the torso around the ribs; the soft fleshy tissue can be compressed and squeezed, redistributed above and below the waistline. As skirts and sleeves shrank, fashions began to favour a more slender, vertical look. Princess line dresses were popular in the 1880s; these were made without a horizontal waist seam and with long vertical seams running the length of the dress, with the dress fitted closely to the body. Hourglass corsets changed to emphasise the long lines of the body, and their shape often attempted to slim the torso above the waist as well. Josephine Shaffer Modern history In 1900, the straight fronted corset replaced the hourglass corset in fashion. It is one of the most common styles of corset made today, and is often used for post-pregnancy waist training. The name 'hourglass' comes from the shape it gives to the wearer's figure, rather like an hourglass — the waist is small, with the ribcage tapering sharply to the waist and the hips flaring outwards (wide shoulders, wide ribcage, narrow waist, wide hips). Some dislike the shape, claiming that the nipped-in waist looks unnatural, and that with the aim of getting the smallest waist possible, an hourglass figure can look like "pillow being cinched in by a belt. The hourglass corset is associated with very small waists. However, it is likely that hourglass corsets were not laced as tightly as the straight-fronted corsets fashionable at the beginning of the twentieth century.
