Sunil Dutt made the debut movie Rocky in 1981 for his son Sanjay.also stars Reena Roy, Tina Munim, Amjad Khan, Raakhee Gulzar, Shakti Kapoor and Aruna Irani. Sunil Dutt also has a cameo role. The film was released only a few weeks after the death of Sunil Dutt's wife and Sanjay Dutt's mother Nargis.

As the protagonist of the film Sanjau Dutt irst appeared in the film "Rockey" directed by his own father Sunil Dutt, though his debut had taken place back in 1971 in the film "Reshma aur Shera"
