Well Tiara, the latest movie made on Kashmir as a subject and backdrop and also the movie that is made after a very long time (18 yrs) in Kashmir which is making a lot of news and rave reviews from all quarters is Tahaan, but the more curiosity it generated was for the meaning of the Word Tahaan the title of the movie. So as per the director, ace Photographer Santosh Sivan the word means tolerance in Bengali and stands different meanings in different languages.

And, yes the word is in total context of the movie and its plot and the situation in the valley. The tolerance that the boy has to bear in his journey and the the decision he has to take for his goals.

This amazing movie which is not just a movie, but an artistic display of a fairy tale, something seen after a very long time. A movie with substance and subject.

The story of the movie is pretty simple.

Tahaan ( meaning-merciful) is the story of an eight-year old boy Tahaan ( Purav Bhandare) whose best friend is his donkey- Birbal. Birbal is everything for Tahaan. To pay some debts, Tahaan’s family has to give all their assets including Birbal to the local money lender (Rahul Khanna). Now getting his dearest Birbal back becomes the sole aim of Tahaan’s life and he is ready to pay any price for this purpose. Tahaan finally gets the donkey but at what price? This is one story where the journey is definitely more interesting than the destination.

Tahaan is the protagonist's name in the film with the same name directed by Santosh Sivan. In an interview with Santosh Sivan, published today in Hindu, Santosh said that he wanted to show the day to day realities of strife ridden Kashmir through the eyes of Tahaan who is in search of His Donkey. No symbolism is there but revealing of truth.

iN MOVIE ""Tahaan"",Tahaan is the name of the protagonist played by child artist Purav Bhandare.The film is about the journey of a boy who goes out of his home in desperation to find his donkey. During his efforts to find his donkey and bring him back he experiences many things. He meets different kinds of people and that makes the story interesting. Besides, finding his donkey is not easy for him. He goes through a lot of things.

It’s directed by none other than ace cinematographer, Santosh Sivan. Whoa! That is one hell load of talent packed in one movie.

Tahaan is bound to stand out from the normal fare. Kudos to the makers for daring to make a different kind of movie.
